Lower Austria – Visiting Interesting Wine Celebrations

For winemakers, the most important season of the year is autumn. Few, however, know that the wine year and the first wine tasting, which are harvested in the autumn and are left to mature in the winter, they mature in the spring.

The beautiful nature of Lower Austria is awakening from the winter, the hills are green and the vintners are starting to open their cellars to the first visitors. At the end of March, a new wine year begins with spring. Enjoy the first spring days in a charming setting just outside our borders. The combination of enchanting landscapes, traditional festivals, excellent regional specialties and great wines guarantee a unique experience. You can go cycling or walking for extra spring events. During your excursions you can try to stop at the wine bars in the so-called Heurigen.

Wineries

Heurigen features extraordinary wineries offering not only "this year" wines (this is called St. Martin's wine) and musts, but also hot and cold homemade dishes. In some wine bars, it is possible to stay overnight and a little more enjoy the atmosphere, tasting new wines and traditional food. The offer of these pubs is indeed diverse and depends on the region in which it is located. In the east, Grüner Veltliner dominates and in the west, for example, pear must. Heurigen villages have a season all year round.

Also in the spring you can visit a variety of wine festivals, discover local winemakers and experience the original atmosphere of the regions of Lower Austria.

Along Weinviertel Trail to Wine

In the spring, you can take the Weinviertel's wine tour just outside the border. More than 200 winemakers will open their cellars as part of the event, which will take place on April 27 and 28, and will allow you to taste the new wine years. Spend an unforgettable weekend with all the senses and indulge in great wine, gastronomy and the culture of Lower Austria. The trip starts at 10 am and the end is estimated at 7 pm.

Spring of Wine in Danube Region

The Danube area is a wine region famous for its white wine and unique stone terraces. The Gourmet Festival will be held in the Wachau region from March 28 March to April 11. For visitors, it is a unique opportunity to discover the best wines from the Wachau, the UNESCO-listed valley, and to taste dishes from top international chefs.
