SK: Kosice – Unique City in East Slovakia – VIDEO

Kosice is a center of east Slovakia. Its 250 thousand people make it the second largest city in Slovakia. It is dubbed a city of the youth for there universities with many students studyign at them, as well as quite a low average age of locals which is only 35 years.

Nature center to the city is a long square-  Hlavni Street and Svobody Square –  centrum města tvoří podlouhlé náměstí – in the past a a river ran through. On the island on the river, there was built St Elizabeth church in the year 1508. Today, it is the single largest church in Slovakia. Also, it is one of the most interesting Gothic-style structures in central Europe. NExt to the cathedral, there is a musical fountain and a building of a theater where you can get some rest.

The entire center is the largest city landmark reservation in the country. It is worth  that you walk around a bit for a while and dicover some of its historic streets such as the quiant Hrnciarska Street – a craftsmen street.

Kosice has been recently undergoing a facelift. I belive it is a nice followup to Interface project which made the city to win the European Capital of Culture in the past. Some of the unused spaces were rebuilt to to cultural and art centers. One of such is the Hall of Art made of once a roofed pool. It is really interesting to watch the changes which are udnerway. Today, you can still see many cultural events such as Art Film Fest taking place in June.

I have been to Kosice for couple of times alrady. Everytime I manage to find new and interesting placed, meet inspiring people and visit great cultural events. Everytime I am here, I get this feeling that the city offers far more than on my last visit. Therefore, I recommend you to visit Kosice. You will be pleasantly surprised!
