SK, Smolenice – Hlbociansky Fall – VIDEO

It is not necessary to reintroduce you the town of Smolenice. Should you to learn more about it, or just revisit Smolenic and its surroundings just read THIS interesting article.

This time we traveled there by bus. It took us ride to the town center. We stepped of the bus at the municipality. From there, we followed the blued tourist trail going to the Protected Nature Reservation of Hlbocianska Valley (the valley of Hlboc). The nature was still of grey-brown color, without snow yet with the signs of upcoming spring. The hike to our destination didn’t take long. The interesting fact about the chosen destination is that it shows its beauty only sometimes. So what was where we had decide to go? The Hlbociansky waterfall, that’s what it was.

This unusual wonder of nature is the only waterfall in the Small Carpathian Mountain range. Sometimes it is voluminous and full of force yet on the other occasions it is narrow, almost with no water. Therefore, we recommend you to visit it just these days when the snow melts and there is enough of water. Hlbociansky waterfall is also referred to as Padla Voda. It is 9 meters high. Above it, water vortex of up to 1.5 meters in diameter could be seen. It is also the evidence of water erosion.

The waterfall belongs to the Smolenicky Karst . The most typical form there is the 100 meter deep Hlbocianska valley. On its edge is the aforementioned waterfall. In the present, the creeks running through the valley are being used for drinking water. Hlbocianska valley is the only karst valley in the Small Carpathians. Should we get back to the waterfall in the future, there is possibility to see the limestone wall which is 145 million years old, being one of the few in Slovakia. This would date its origin to the turn of the Jurassic and Cretaceous ages. Traces of water below the waterfall get lost in the underground only to emerge near Smilenice. This means there are ideal conditions for cave forming . This is partially confirmed by the availability of the Driny came in the Small Carpathians . The nature trail of Smolenicky Karst led us there. In the past, we enjoyed it with a tour guide accompanying us.

This nature trail begins in the resort area of Jahodnik and ends at the Vrtich’s quarry, at the edge of Smolenice town. We walked through it the other way round. However, it didn’t take anything from its beauty. On shy 4.5 km there are 8 information boards. Well 9 actually. We omitted one of them somehow. We finished the trail with no problems. With new knowledge we returned to the town center and then back home.

Anyway, we only have to recommend you to visit this beautiful valley with even more beautiful waterfall.
