I visited the Catalonian capital with my family for a week in the time of Christmas holidays. I like to learn about culture of the country I spend my time in so I spent lot of time wandering in the streets, in parks or had breakfast in back-alley cafes with locals. I enjoyed hours-long dinners having great tapas and even better wine. I tried to met as new people as possible. True, only disadvantage was that I didn’t speak Spanish or Catalonian.
One of the largest and most popular parks is Parc de la Ciutadella sitting right next to Barcelonan Zoo. We can even find there a building of Catalonian Parliament. People take walks there, or make a picnic, study, run, joggle, do yoga, walk on slackline. Or they race on rollerskates. I lived near the park so I went there almost every day to sit down.
Many sportsmen could be seen on Barcelona beach and around. The Mediterranean Sea is quite cold in winter. Yet couple of winter swimmers and many people surfed (despite there were hardly any waves). Right next to the beach there are many pleasant bars and restaurant. We even spent the Christmas Eve in one of them (the Spaniards don’t take Christmas as seriously as we do, yet they are deeply religious).
And what is this famous Spanishtapas all about? Simply put, various meals are on small plates shared at one table. Everyone takes what he likes. It is an ideal way how to eat. They normally spend hours eating dinner. Inseparable from any tapas are cheeses, hams, sausages, olives, shrimps, fish and other seafood. “Spanish omelet” is another typical dish. It is fried on olive oil with potatoes and onion. Last but not least, a bottle of good southern wine should be also on the table...
Many people travel to Barcelona because they want to do some shopping. They satisfy their urge at many places. Perhaps the most famous is Passeig de Gracia street. Except for dozens shops with luxury goods you can see some buildings designed by Antonio Gaudí. Also, you shouldn’t miss La Rambla.
Barcelona is an ideal holiday destination for everyone. You can spent couple of days visiting sights, galleries, museums or enjoying nice nature, and relax on beaches. Or you can hit city’s vivid nightlife. You can arrive in any season but the best is either spring or autumn. It is cold and damp in the Czech republic. On the contrary, it is beautiful weather in Barcelona. There are also considerably less tourists than in summer, therefore you can enjoy the town much more.
In narrow streets of historical center in Barcelona is really easy to get lost. However, you can be sure that you would always end up at some cathedral or, at least, small shrine. They are hard to see from distance, they just suddenly pop up in front of you. On the other hand, famous Sagrada Família is easy to see from distance.
Having 512 meters, Tibidabo is the highest summit of the Serra de Collserola. Therefore, you should miss it if you want to enjoy one of the best vistas over Barcelona. Tibidabo is on city’s northwest. You can easily distinguish it for its white temple on the top.
I walk in the park around Museum Prado. It is the temple of the art. Yet even the greatest of the art enthusiasts would get tired after couple of hours.
Malaga (correct Spanish spelling is Málaga) is the second largest city in Andalusia. It is situated on the Mediterranean coastline. It is a center of the famous Costa del Sol resort.
A beautiful city scenting with orange trees is located in Andalusia, south Spain - Cordoba (Córdoba in Spanish). The city is protected by UNESCO. Tourists are lured in for its Arabic architecture originating around the year 1000. The city was an important part of Islamic cutlure back then.
There is a small British enclave in the southernmost tip of Spain (Andalusia region known for the cities of Cordoba and Granada mostly). The earliest finding of human settlement dates back to the Stone Age here. A skull of a Neanthrtal man was found there. Later, armed struggles were led over the this strategic area which was annexed by the United Kingdom eventually.
Salvador Dalí. A name that lives 30 years after the death of its bearer. This eccentric artist has left an indelible surrealistic footprint not only in painting, sculpture, photography and literature, but also in architecture. And it was in this area that it was most realized in its homeland, the so-called Wild Coast (Costa Brava) of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia in the north of Spain.
The monastery high in the mountains has for centuries been a refuge for the Benedictine monks, who are here guarding the miraculous statue of the Black Madonna of Montserrat. Maybe you belong to pilgrims who will go to her to worship. But even if you do not believe in miracles, take a day trip here from Barcelona. It is an exceptional and impressive place.

There was a time in where it was a village. That village was called Benidorm. We are talking of the years 1950s. Suddenly, I mean s-u-d-d-e-n-l-y, the Spanish government of that time decided that as we had such a lovely weather and those lovely beaches why were not we to use it to attract tourists.
