Thailand, Nan – The Center of the Most Forgotten About Part of the Country – VIDEO

Published: 9.9.2023
Most visitors to North Thailand visit only Chiang Mai and its surroundings. A bunch of daredevils go to Chiang Rai or Mae Hong Son, sometimes someone stops at Phayao. Few people, however, take a trip to the province of Nan at the border with Laos, yet there are countless places to find.

The city of Nan itself is about 300 kilometers east of Chiang Mai to get there either by bus or by air from Bangkok and Chiang Mai. In Asian proportions, it is rather a small village, there is something between 20 and 30 thousand people.

Nan city

The entire province of Nan offers a lot of natural beauty. I can recommend mainly Doi Phu Kha National Park with lots of unforgettable views, rare plants and animals, waterfalls and caves. Here you can also go on several adventurous jungle treks.

Nan city

Nan city will be our base for our field trips to the area. But it also has something to offer, and since there are almost no foreign tourists, you still have the chance to experience authentic Thailand here.

Nan city

Start your trip in the city at Wat Phumin temple right in its heart. There you can also see unique wall paintings. Directly in front of the temple there is an evening market every weekend, where you can buy souvenirs and especially taste a lot of local delicacies.Wat Ming Muang

Take a look at the golden statue of the blessing Buddha at Wat Phra That Khao Noi Temple on a hill overlooking the city. It opens up a long view not only of the city, but also of the surrounding countryside and the mountains that rise from the valley of the Nan River just outside the city.

Wat Phra That Chang Kam Voravihara

If you are interested in the history and the different ethnic groups in this area, stop at the local museum. The history of this area is very varied, the city once used to be one of the most important centers of the Lanna Kingdom, which lay in the north of Thailand and today's country of Laos. At the same time you can see local costumes, jewelery and art.

Nan city

Speaking of art, you may also be interested in an important center of contemporary art in the entire region of northern Thailand. On the bank of the river you will find Nan Riverside Art Gallery, where interesting exhibitions and meetings take place.

Nan city

But as I mention earlier, Nan will serve as the gateway to a beautiful region that has so far not hit the influx of foreign tourists. You still have a bit of authentic Asia here. Thanks to visitors from other parts of Thailand, however, you do not have to worry about finding accommodation or getting lost. Tourist infrastructure works just as well as in other regions.

Koh Chang is one of the largest islands in the Gulf of Thailand, located near the border with Cambodia. Not only is it full of white sandy beaches, but it also offers unique natural attractions. The shape of the island's promontory resembles an elephant's trunk, and it was the elephant's head that inspired its naming, even though the elephants did not originally live in the area.

Thailand – Nine One Coffee Farm
Published: 22.7.2023
The climate in the mountains in the north of Thailand is very different to the south of the country. Mountains usually rise as high as 1500 meters. Temperatures can easily drop below 10 degrees Celsius in winter. That's why strawberries are grown here, for instance. The mountain climate is great for high-quality arabica coffee as well. About 50 kilometers from Chiang Mai town, there is a coffee plantation I went to visit. It was there where I finally realized how much work is behind one simple cup of coffee.

In my opinion, too bad than many travelers spend there a day or two and move on.
