Austria, Carinthia – Nassfeld: Ideal Skiing for Everybody
Winter Reading Is Brought to You By:
Every year season has something good into it. But the winter months are the most favorite for me. Usually, we search our vacation last minute. This time, however, we made an exception as we wanted to go skiing in top-notch ski region of Nassfeld, which is not of the cheapest especially in the high season i.e. during school holidays.
We checked the internet couple of weeks ahead to find private accommodation. It would mean that we would have to travel couple of minutes by car to the downtown, yet the price and the quality spoke for itself. From Bratislava it is about 450 kilometers to the region. You can make it in about 6 hours, short breaks included. The ride there and back wasn’t long and tiresome. Even our “drivers” could therefore enjoy skiing with us from the very first day.
Nassfeld – skiing and beautiful vistas
I have to admit that Nassfeld-Pressegger See lures many winter sports fans there. It also had something more to it.
Right upon arrival at the parking lot, we saw we were not the only one to spend vacation in this very resort. Vast parking spaces divided to smaller for better navigation, and there were even navigators showing you free parking spaces. You could get from there to the station and box offices either by trains, or by ski following a side trail. The trail wasn’t particularly good for snowboarders, however. At the box offices, we experienced a small shock that would stick with us until the end of the vacation.
Small unpleasant surprise, otherwise all pros
Before we managed to buy tickets, we had to stand about an hour until we reached the box offices. When we finally asked for skipasses that would be active from 11 oclock, the lady there gave us the brush off. So we had to wait for another 20 minutes because they open at 11! When we tried to explain that it would be long after 11 when we would stand in the line, she just mumbled something and served other customer. We decided to buy a multiple days ticket despite we knew we wouldn’t get at the ski slope before 11 o’clock.
Not very pleasant introduction that sucked some of our enthusiasm was the last thing that would stand against us enjoying the holidays. Perfect ski slopes altogether 110 km of them will satisfy every fan of skiing and snowboarding. There are 30 safe and modern tows and cabin ways. Except for first wait at the cabin way station in the valley, we didn’t have to wait more than couple of minutes in the height of the season. There are couple of areals for beginning children, and you can pay for services of experienced skiing teachers.
Even groups of young adults will enjoy it there, they are mostly lured by bars wit hloud music, and fun ensured by professional DJs or other kinds of entertainers. Even the most enthusiastic skiers of all such who cold ski all day long without skiing on the same slope, or even lovers of free ride zones can enjoy fresh snow and won’t be disappointed.
One of the best ski resorts in Europe – Nassfeld is at 610 to 2200 meters. It has guaranteed snow . In all of Austria you wouldn’t find another place where you would have snow sure. Thanks to geographic location, Nassfeld has lots of snow, on average there is 180 cm of snow in winter. And that’s not all! The resort of Nassfeld is belongs to ten of the best Austrian resorts and it has many sunny days. If you really love long slopes this resort is ideal for you. Skiing down to the valley is 7.6 km long without any stopping. from my oint of view, I was satisfied when we moved from one ski tow to another by shorter slopes. We enjoyed fantastic vistas and fantastic terrain.
Other "top things" in this area are, for instance, the longest lit slope in the Alps , or the longest cabin way in the Alps (known as the Millennium Express). Many nice buffets, Alpine bars, or restaurants right at the slopes are also worth mentioning. The latter have also terraces and sunbeds, we really liked to use them during our ski breaks. There are also many social events and other kidns of entertainment waiting for the visitors of Nassfeld.
