Greece, Corfu – A Trek Across Green Island
Are you starting to plan where you will go on vacation when possible? And you don't just want to lie on the beach, but prefer an active holiday? Explore the Greek island of Corfu, a paradise for pedestrians and nature lovers. A two-hundred-kilometer-long trail awaits you into a landscape untouched by mass tourism, from the top of the highest mountain Pantokrator in the north, in the central part of the island through endlessly terraced hills of olive groves to sand dunes dotted with junipers and valleys full of oaks and chestnut trees in the south. island.
The trail is primarily used for hiking
The trail was founded in 2001 and is visited by thousands of enthusiasts every year. The whole road measures about 220 kilometers. You can go in about 9 to 12 days. You can divide it into stages, go it all at once, from north to south and vice versa.
It is marked in strategic places with yellow markers with the letters CT and a directional arrow. If the route crosses side paths and paths, then the route between the CT signs is confirmed by yellow signs that you will find on trees, walls or stones. For better orientation, I recommend downloading offline mapy.cz, where the whole route is well marked.
The most dramatic scenery and the largest concentration of peaks are located on the north side of the island. The list of every adventurer should not miss the highest point of the island, Mount Pantokratoras 911 m above sea level, a huge limestone massif leading to the Albanian coast and dominating the stunning stretches of coast. On the west coast of the island there are beautiful golden sand beaches, the town of Paleokastritsa and its beautiful bays, the fortress of Angelokastro, Cape Cape Drastis and the so-called double beach of Porto Timoni. With the exception of the city of Corfu and some tourist resorts, the vast areas of the island remain almost untouched.
S výjimkou města Korfu a některých turistických letovisek zůstávají obrovské plochy ostrova téměř nedotčené.
Stezka vhodná pro začátečníky i zkušené chodce
The best time to visit is from April to October. Temperatures may be too high in the summer months. Most likely you will not see a single cloud in the sky. Ideal temperatures for trekking prevail here in the autumn, but don't forget to pack a raincoat in your backpack. In the spring, wild flowers bloom again and cover the whole country. If you decide to travel in early spring or late autumn, make sure the hotels and guesthouses are open. The locals usually leave their summer places of work and the island for the winter. Backpackers and adventure travelers will also enjoy themselves. You can sleep on the terraces of olive groves, which stretch along the hills, especially in the northern part of the island, or on the beaches.

Greek Kefalonia is the largest island in the Ionian Sea, located between Lefkada and Zakynthos. People come here mainly for beautiful beaches and peace, because it is not so touristy yet. The capital is Argostoli, which is also worth a visit. We stay in Lixouri and there is a ferry every 30 minutes between Lixouri and Argostoli. One trip costs less than 3 euros and takes 20 minutes.
For ancient Greece enthusiasts, visiting any other city is probably not a “duty”. After all, it is the most important Greek city-state and the center of Hellenic trade, art and politics. Today, the city is a busy metropolis, which has managed to preserve most of its historical legacy, so nothing prevents us from taking a walk where the new and the old mix.
Corfu (Kerkyra in Greek) is one of the smaller islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Most tourists come here with a clear destination - relax on the beach, gyros and tzatziki, ouzo and maybe one or two trips to the most interesting sights. This 60 km long island with a long and interesting history can offer much more.
Lefkada is said to be a pearl in the Ionian Sea and to have just the most beautiful beaches in all of Greece. The name Lefkada dates back to ancient Greece and was derived from the bright white cliffs at the southernmost tip of the island. And we will take a closer look at this gem together today.
This gem of Ionian Islands. It is known not only for beautiful beaches but also for its charming Greek countryside. You can enjoy it to the fullest on the island. Lefkada is situated south of Corfu and north of Cephalonia.
This time we decided to set off to explore towns and cities in Greece. Litochoro was one of our first stops. This "stone town" is situated close to the Olympic Mountains.
The island of Mykonos is not big, it has an area of only about 100 km². And so the ideal way to travel the whole island is to rent a scooter, motorbike or quad bike. In addition to a varied nightlife, Mykonos is famous for its rugged coastline with beautiful beaches and a very pleasant climate. Today we will go to explore some of its most famous beaches.
Wondering if you will end up heading out to sea? Would you like to fly to Crete? This island is so famous that we will not talk about it now. But while you're here, we know of a great day trip. That you don't want to walk around the sights in the awful heat? Be calm, this trip will absolutely captivate you. We set off to Chrissi Island.
An island with a history dating back to the early Stone Age was only discovered in the 1970s-80s. Today, it is a popular holiday destination not only for the mainland, Romanians, Bulgarians and the inhabitants of the former Yugoslavia, who are almost overwater here, but Thassos is stuck in the viewfinder to tourists beyond the borders of Europe. The most popular places include southern Limenaria and Potos.
The green island of Thassos is situated in Eastern Macedonia. It is green because mountain peaks are covered by pine and olive groves. Its rocky shores are washed by the tranquil Aegean Sea. You will not find any airport or industrial zone. That makes the air here great. Thanks to the marble subsoil, one of the best marbles in the world is mined here.
Upon our visit to Litochoro, we moved several kilometers on. Our next stop was a typical Greek village with amazing nature, interesting architecture and amazing vistas.
We stay in the sunny country of Greece also this week. Today, we visit the most popular summer resort on the Olympic riviera – the town of Paralia. This sea resort is about 8 kilometers away from the capital of Pieria prefecture. Paralia is a great place to relax at and have fun.
Santorini (Thira in Greek language) is a relatively small part of the Cyclades archipelago, with a width of only 6 km and a length of just over 25 km. Its area, however, strongly balances the geographical and geological location of the island and its rich history. Situated 220 km from Athens and 110 km from Crete, Thira has always been an important and often necessary stop on the route between these major shopping centers. As a result, traces of the largest Minoan settlement outside Crete have been preserved on the island.
Certainly the most picturesque and romantic place I have seen in Europe is the Greek island of Santorini. And that is one of the reasons why we returned here this year after nine years. I will not lie when I reveal that another important aspect of our revisit was very cheap tickets, of which there are more than enough on offer. The best weather is of course here in the season, but even now it is a pleasant 18 degrees.
Thessaloniki or Thessaloniki is the 2nd largest Greek city after Athens. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988, and to this day you can see and visit many buildings from the early Christian period and the Byzantine Empire. Due to its location, the city was of strategic importance in the past and is still very popular with tourists.
Beautiful nature, green olive groves and many famous beaches, that is Zakynthos. It is the southernmost and third largest island in the Ionian Sea. The symbol of this island is the beach with the wreck of a smuggling ship. But don't expect historical monuments like Rhodes or Crete.
Cosmopolitan Mykonos is an island in the Greek Cyclades archipelago in the Mediterranean. The world is known as the island of celebrities, creams and nightlife. Recently, however, it has come to the forefront of popularity and Czech travel agencies are beginning to offer it in their catalogs.
