SK, A Story of Different Side of Slovakia
Only recently, the Dajama family publishing house has published a new book, The Different Side of Slovakia, which was preceded by a profound experience from the film of the same name and an exhibition by photographer Tomáš Hulík. The paintings of the devastation of the Slovak landscape were so strong for the editors that they decided to process them in a book. They want to send a signal to think about how we live and stimulate interest in things around us and the sustainable development of Slovakia.
This Story Is About Everyone of Us...
Let's look at the true picture of Slovakia from above. Forest, meadow, fields, town and village. Sharp borders between them. All the subtle shades of the landscape are dredged, plowed, felled and irretrievably lost. Words like windbreak, boundary, draw, bog, meadows or swamp are also disappearing from our language. The number of trees in Slovakia is growing every year, but forests are disappearing before our eyes. The area of pastures, which we no longer manage and are gradually overgrown with overgrown trees, is larger than the territory of the Bratislava self-governing region.
This story is about us. We live as if our well-being should last forever. We are ignoring the warning signals that the country is sending us. Perhaps the tests that the virus has prepared for us will force us to eventually change the way of life based on consumption, overproduction, efficiency and profit. The entrenched belief that our natural resources are a bottomless pantry can prove to be a fatal mistake. From a life-saving point of view, the landscape's ability to control climate extremes is as valuable as producing grain, meat, wood or energy.
Magical Slovakia?
So what is our Slovakia like? Is it really as magical as we think? Today, Slovakia, like any other state, has its averted face. A face that we will not brag to tourists, but we simply cannot close our eyes to it. We should be aware of our personal responsibility for the situation in which we have brought our landscape and do everything we can to preserve the precious cultural heritage and a living environment.
What Can You Read About in This Book?
The book of the averted face of Slovakia maps those influences of human activity that have most significantly affected the environment and the appearance of the landscape. Industrialization, agriculture, logging .. Communism, headless construction ...
The book does not aim to find a way out of the current state or a fabrication of why this is so and why not. The ambition of the book is to point out mainly the negative influences of society on our indifference and to derive our own responsibility for this state.
Because Slovakia is in our hands. And the state in which we hand it over to our children is up to us. On each of us. You can find the publication in any good bookstore or e-shop. If you write us at least three "different" places in Slovakia, you will be included in the draw for this unique book. Send answers by 8.1. 2022 at info@infoglobe.sk. The winner will then be published on our social networks.
