USA, Washington – Leavenworth

Welcome to Bavaria. Are you confused? Bavaria is not only a federal state in Germany, but also an area in the heart of the Cascade Range, which stretches along the state of Washington. The city originally specialized in logging and the railways passed through here. In the 1960s, it was significantly revitalized and became a town of true Bavarian style. However, it is not only the external appearance of the town, the locals honor old and modern German traditions.

Today, you can enjoy various events here, such as the annual Bavarian Ice Festival, the Maifest or the Christkindlmarkt, a Christmas festival of lights. The best of the festival takes place every December weekend, when the celebration of lights always begins at 4.45 pm.

Leavenworth also boasts a quality culinary scene, even the Taste Leavenworth! Event, which takes place every April. And of course in October there is a traditional Oktoberfest, which is accompanied by German music and dance.

Leavenworth is visited by about a million tourists a year. A respectable number, however, people come here not only for the city, but also for the surrounding mountains and national parks.

From the wilderness areas, we take you first to Icicle Creek, which begins high in the Cascade Range and joins the Wenatchee River near Leavenworth. Icicle Creek Road leads from the town, which offers magical mountain views, and there are several camping sites along the way.

You can also find Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery on Icicle Road near the town. This is a unique stop in a way, because you can learn all about the salmon life cycle here.

One of the highlights of your trip to Leavenworth and the surrounding area is sure to be a visit to Lake Wenatchee State Park, which is one of the most popular parks in Washington state. You can camp here comfortably and the seven-kilometer-long Lake Wenatchee will complete the beautiful scenery. Crystal clear water and mountains in the background will be etched in your memory for a long time.

In summer, there are many activities around the lake. For example, you can rent a boat and go fishing. Or there are many interesting hiking trails in the area, which you can walk on horseback. In winter, there are 40 kilometers of maintained cross-country trails.
