CZ, Choceň – A Crossroad in the Tichá Orlice River Valley – VIDEO

Choceň was never one of the most important places in the region - it was overshadowed by nearby Litomyšl, for example. In the second half of the 19th century, however, the city became an important railway junction. In 1845, the Prague – Olomouc line was opened, and 30 years later the line to Broumov was connected to it in Chocen. In the 1980s, the local railway to Litomyšl was opened. Thanks to this, a number of industrial enterprises have gradually opened up here. And an important traffic junction is still today.

You can visit the local small chateau on the bank of Tichá Orlice, which gained its present appearance thanks to Prince Rudolf Kinský in the first half of the 19th century. The Baroque Church of St Francis of Seraphim and Tyrš Square with Plague Column and Town Hall are also worth a visit.

However, as we have already mentioned, the surrounding countryside is worth a trip. Choceň will serve as a great starting point for hiking and cycling expeditions both upstream and downstream of Tichá Orlice.

Just outside the city, for example, there are up to 35 meters high marl rocks and towers above the river. Thanks to several views in the Peliny Nature Reserve, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful view of the valley, along the way you will find the remains of the medieval Vranov hillfort.

Further downstream you will reach the valley of Brandýs nad Orlicí, where you can visit the deep Devil's Gorge, where you will be guided by the green hiking trail. Or follow the blue trail to the next lookout point at the ruins of Brandys Castle.

On the other hand, you can set out from Choceň either along the nature trail Dívčí doly, or on the easy cycling route around the endless folds of the river to Týniště nad Orlicí.

The valley of Tichá Orlice is one of the most beautiful corners of our country and the local unique nature certainly deserves attention. Enjoy your trip!
