CZ: Horni Plana
Border town near the water dam of Lipno. The name of the original village came from its location and the terrain there. Wide, deserted plains stretching to the skies... Thats why its called Horni Plana. From there it is only about 10 km to Austria and about twice as much to Germany. Strategic position for trade was realized long before the construction of the Schwarzenberg channel in the 18th century. The post-war period was significant for preserving virgin nature for the area was on borderline. Wide plains changed in the mid-20th century when there was the largest intrustion to the landscape. From calm creek of the Vltava became a large lake below which 20 villages were left to decay. Horni Plana however dealed elegantly with the transformation. Today there is lively tourism, and the village is really accommodate its visitors.
