Join us to a trip to the river of Sázava, which offers in addition to the golden surface and beautiful natural scenery, many historical sites and monuments proudly standing on its banks. We visited a section around the village of Čtyřkoly, where we enjoyed a ferry across the river and a walk through the river spa, climbed to the ruins of Zlenice Castle and finally walked in the woods along the stream of Mnichovka.

Žďár nad Sázavou is a city known mainly Santini pilgrimage church of St. Jan of Nepomuk on Zelená hora, sign on list UNESCO World Heritage Site. Who would look for this miracle the centre, would be disappointed. Monuments stand on the edge of town. But we still stay in the centre of Žďár and the church will be discussed in detail sometimes later.
Welcome at Cesky Sternberk castle. It is one of the most beautiful of medieval places in the Czech Republic. It name suggests to which family the castle is related to.
There are villages and villages. The village, where we take you this time is full of charm. There nearly seven hundred people lives. In the summer season, and even at its very end, when the weather is not as challenging, but there is more populous. Attraction for tourists is eponymous castle, respectively its very well preserved ruins and few fixed parts.
There are many beautiful views in the Sazava river in the region of Central-Bohemia. One of them is on a rocky top of Hadi Skala. The view is over a valley right in front of the town of Davle, where the Sazava meets the Vltava River. A circular route mostly goes through forests and easy terrain. The route is 6 kilometers long. The start place is the town of Petrov. From there we follow the yellow path.
As the name implies, it is the ruin of Kostelec nad Sazavou castle. The ruins are visible from Hradecice hill, in Cizov u Tynce nad Sazavou natural reservation. After 300 meters of hike a beautiful view to the valley and the Sazava river opens to you.
Today we set out for the Sázava River, which is considered the Golden River. Not only the color of the water but also the fact connected with gold mining in Jílové u Prahy contributed to this name.
Paddlers know this small town on the Sazava. When they travel through this place, they have the wildest part of the river behind them. Its called Stvoridla and Slunezni Zatoka, the place where popular Czech novel Rychle Sipy took place. Perhaps there they landed to dry out their boats and enjoyed melancholy related to the novel.
The charm of the Sazava river was already told about in the last article. Now board a boat with us for we have a 2-day boat ride ahead of us. We start off at Horka II camp and sail down to Cesky Sternberk. This section is quite tranquil with an occasional weir or two. The stretches you need to do in a day are quite long especially because of long distances between camps and snack bars. You can ride there on a canoe even in the occasion of lower water level.
The Sazava is sought after by many paddlers. Should you hear somebody saying anything about riding the Golden River, he certainly talks about the Sazava. The alternate name for the river comes from its brown-yellowish color created by clay releasing from the riverbed. The upper stream of the Szava is the Struzny creek. It feeds Velke Darko the largest pond of the Bohemian Moravian Highlands. This pond is a popular vacation place and the center of windsurfing and dragon boats.
Three gems near the Sazava river is what you can manage to visit in one day. The castle in Ledec nad Sazavou, historical center and Svetla nad Sazavou chateau, and lastly the majestic castle in Lipnice nad Sazavou.
If you want to go through the most beautiful and most romantic stretch along the Sazava River, then the section from Kamenny Privoz to Pikovice is a great choice. Take a look at the history of tramping, see the huts and settlements set in rocks, prospects, waterfalls, rock formations and much more. The river makes it even better. Somewhere it is wild and somewhere water lazily rolls along the rocks.
Spirit of true genius will remain around Zelena hora at Zdar nad Sazavou unless a church which stands there is removed. It is the embodiment of the spirit of bold, talented architect Jan Blazej Santini Aichel.
