Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape is home to Lednice chateau which is better than many other landmarks. No wonder then that it belongs on UNESCO world heritage list. The House of Liechtenstein brought to life a unique project because the chateau was inspired by the revival Gohthic style. There is a French-style garden, the greenhouse with what is probably the oldest and rarest greenhouse plant in the world, a minaret, or a hunting chateau. There is much more to this landscape, however! Let this video be your inspiration for a visit in south Moravia in the summer.
We had paid our visit the House of Nature once we reached Skalni mill, a locality near Blansko district town, also thought about as the entrance to the Moravian Karst. We had also seen some of its surrounding. The trail going to the Katerinska cave is right behind this recently opened exhibition.
About 30 kilometers northeast of Brno lies a beautiful town of Vyskov through which the River Hana flows. The history of the town dates back to the 12th century. For a long time the town belonged to the Olomouc bishopric, i.e. from the 13th to the 19th century. Today its historic center includes beautiful landmarks which have been gradually returned to their former shine and glory.
Who around Brno doesn't know about Lulec. Even people from quite afar come here to swim in U Libuse natural swimming pool. Often they stop by to have a snack during bicycle trip. There is a lot to do for bicyclers around these parts.
Spring is on and the tourist season is underway. Go to nature, culture and do some sightseeing. There are countless of them in the Czech Republic and today you can see Pernštejn Castle with us.
The Czech Republic has many beautiful castles and chateaux that are open to the public. Whether in Bohemia or Moravia, the film footage has made Karlštejn everlastingly famous, the same goes for Pernětejn, Bouzov or Křivoklát. But we often forget small towns, townships, and villages where there are castles and chateaux as well. One of such is Lysice Chateau.
The term Moravian Tuscany has only appeared in the last few years. This undulating part of South Moravia with its colorful fields and vineyards really resembles the famous region of Italy. No wonder it is very popular among photographers from all over the world who come here to create their best images. And not just among photographers.
The Blue Mountains region is located in southern Moravia and unites the villages of Kobylí, Vrbice, Bořetice, Němčičky and Velké Pavlovice. Today we will ride a bike from Kobylí through Bořetice, Vrbice and Velké Pavlovice. This circuit has 25 relatively undemanding kilometers and a large number of attractions await us on the route, which are worth seeing.
Once again, we are in the south of Moravia, in a region of wine, fruit trees, traditions and people with a warm nature. This time we will move around the protected landscape area of Pálava, which is the driest and warmest place in the whole of the Czech Republic. Pálava is an extremely valuable landscape, there are some of the most fertile vineyards in Moravia.
Most of you know Macochu, Punkevní Cave or Býčí skála. However, the Moravian Karst offers other beautiful places and Rudice is undoubtedly one of them. A unique Rudice sinkhole, Kolíbky rocks or an old windmill awaits you in them.
The picturesque wine town of Dolní Kounice is located about 25 kilometers from Brno on the river Jihlava. The castle and the unique area of the abandoned monastery of Rosa coeli, to which we will now go together, attract visitors.
If you like to visit non-traditional places and prefer shorter walks, this place will be perfect for you. South Moravia is beautiful in every season, so you can come here at any time. Have you heard about the lookout tower in Kobylí in the Břeclav region?
The Náklo area (sometimes also Vrch lží) is a hill near the villages of Milotice, Ratíškovice, Vacenovice and Dubňany. The hill rises at an altitude of approximately 265 meters. Náklo exceeds its surroundings by less than 60 meters, so there are wonderful views of the surrounding area from this place. You can see up to the area of the White Carpathians or Chřiby in the Zlín Region.
There are many great options what to do for those who intend to have active vacation in South Moravia and are attracted to adrenaline activities. On the water, in the air, on the land – the choice is yours. This is only the first part where we introduce you what you can do in this splendid region…
Today we continue in our journey across the Moravian Karst. We have explored the Katerinska Cave and returned to Skalni Mill. Then we took an asphalt road towards the bottom station of the cable car. The cable car was supposed to take us up to the famous and popular Macocha Gorge.
Just several kilometers south from Brno there is Rajhrad, a beautiful wine-growing town. There is a unique Benedictine cloister and adjacent to it the Memorial of literature in Moravia. Also, there St Peter and Paul church. To us, Rajhrad is an ideal place for a one-day trip from Brno either by train, car or bike. In summer, one afternoon is enough to enjoy it.
There is beautiful historical town of Znojmo near the border with Austria on the south of Moravia. It became famous for its wine and cucumbers. Only few know that you can find here, for instance, the relic of St Bonifac, many Middle-Ages landmarks, and that popular TEDx conferences take place there. Let's see Znojmo throughour article and the lense of our videocamera.
South Moravia is often called the land of sun and wine. The number of cultural sights of different historic periods is without parallel in th Czehc Republic. However, no other architectonic style is more present here than the Baroque.
Everybody knows that south Moravia is a land of the greatest wine. But not many know that there are healing water springs. Yet there is nothing better than to enjoy these two liquids, and you can do more than just to drink them…
Those who want to spend active vacation in South Moravian region, those who want to invest their time in adrenaline activties shall find many oportunities to heaten their blood. There are many things you can do on the land, on the water, in the air – the choice is yours. The last week we introduced you to the first part of our miniseries. Now comes the second…
Those wanting to cool down in South Moravia (the region has the highest number of sun hours of any Czech region) during hot summer days should go under ground. There you can find many world's firsts and you can enjoy it regardless if you are adrenaline seeker, a senior or you have children.
When I have learned recently that Lonely Planet declared Brno the least interesting city in the Czech Republic I couldn’t understand. Then I realized that it was good they said it after all. Had crowds of tourists been going there every day as they go to Prague it would soon loose its magic. Brno is a city of universities, fun, culture and many small, lovely places. The turning clock in the shape of a male genitalia from which a small glass ball falls out every hour. Smoking road signs are really to be found only here… New York Times was much more smarter. They put Brno on the list of 52 places where to go in 2016!
When the Creator was giving he was particularly generous to the south Moravians. Thus, they could call their land the “land of wine.” He gave them the most sun in the Czech lands as well as warm climate doing good to grapes but bolstering recreational activities as well – for instance at Vranovska dam, Brnenska dam or on the lakes near Palava. So what waits here for visitors? Great Moravian landmarks, castles, chateaus, sacral buildings, great works of engineering, border fortresses, and beautiful places in nature. There is no coincidence in south Moravia being the second most interesting locality for tourists right next to Prague.
We are going to conclude our mini-series on Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape in podivin. It is a small town on the way to D2 freeway. This town doesn´t belong to the compound. However, it would be a missed opportunity to not to see it. A uniqe Jewish wedding ceremonial hall or Januv castle (a Liechtenstein structure imitating historical architectonic styles) are just a few to name some landmarks. We are not completely sure how the name Podivin came into existence…
It was a forgotten borderline town. Nobody would travel there. Today, it is a growing center of wine where many talented people work. Valtice town is, like Lednice, part of the UNESCO world heritage. Apart from beautiful Renaissance-Baroque chateau or a park, there is the famous Wine Saloon, two beautiful churches, a number of interesting houses, as well as several buildings scattered across the Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape. We recommend you to spend at least couple of hours in Valtice while on you are on your trip across south Moravia. However, the best would be to spend a whole day there.
Only some places can in beauty equal Prague. Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape – especially Lednice chateau – is such a place. It really deserves its place in the UNESCO’s cultural heritage list. The House of Liechtenstein realized a unique project for their time and there is almost nothing like this in the world. Come and see with us a small share of what waits for you in Lednice.
As was told in the first part, now you know why to go to Brno. You know where to start your exploration of the historical district and where to have lunch. What is next? We are going to spend some moments on Svoboda square. There is a mysterious astronomical clock. We cant avoit a visit to Spilberk castle, Villa Tugendhat (under UNESCO) and a functionalist borough around it. Of course, we are going to have a taste of the night life, great beer or wine, and we are going to see some glimpses of local students ’life. So let’s get started!
Our walk along the Macocha Nature trail led us to the bottom cable car station which was launched in May 1995. We found ourselves at the altitude of about 361 meters. Our goal was Horni Mustek above the Macocha abyss. Horni Mustek is more than 130 meters higher.
