Modřany ravine
Local minerals are more than one billion of years old, that means they come from younger old ancient time period. Sea sediments established slates and tripes. Abroad, there were discovered, in old stratta, fossils of many-cells bodies, however, they are missing here on thids place. Cold climate and bad conditions for fossils preservation caused this consequence. Modřany ravine was created by Libuňský brook, 4,6 kms long. It took nearly one million of years, when the abyss was deepened. One hundred years ago, the valley was not afforested. Around brook-banks, only willow trees were bordered. It is to remark that ravine afforested space is, however, unsuitable. South slope is afforested with acacia, the north one is covered with pine-trees, so this wooden trees´ composition would be changed. Modřany ravine is, from botanical point of view, very interesting. Below acacia trees, several most resistant plants reminded, such as greater celandine or nettle. On other places, there are to be found various rare plants. Anyway, most valuable plants are to be watched along brook banks only. Modřany ravine was very popular excursion path 50 years ago. There were to be found two restaurants, including road of very good quality, changed in asphalted road in 1980. Brook bed was arranged on several places. New water reservoir was built, where now various types of fish, such as carps and roaches and put in. Despite the fact that in immediate environs of ravine you find living town, you can watch more than 30 sorts of birds. In the evening there are flying here several sorts of bats. The path is passable for cyclists, too.
