This route is re-newed part of educational path Prokopske Valley. It starts in Butovice in Kacni quarry. You walk upstairs along a way, turning to the right, following yellow marked tourist trail. 450 millions of years ago, one local place (between Butovice and Řeporyje) became a centre of volcanic activity. Part of lava penetrated into surrounding minerals, and created bottom veins. Diabas was excavated here as building material. In upper part of eruptive rocks, there are to be discovered silur slates with fossils However, they are inaccessible at present.
Nevertheless, you can collect some fossils in place know as Kovář (Smith). It is a small quarry which was created by collectors´ activities. Anyway, the finding place of fossils is protected, so it is allowed to collect fossils in wreckages only.
The path leads high above mouth of Prokopský and Dalejský brook, along periphery of Bučovice Piece of Ground. This piece of ground is situated on rocky limestone slopes. It is easily accessible from noth-east side only, so a mound was established here. On rocky steppes, a lot of grass is growing. Rocky steppe is suitable place for life of insects and spiders. You can even watch ground-squirrel here.
