The Castle in Zásmuky belonged till 1637 to Sternberg Parentage. Later, in 1948, it was in possession of state. Nevertheless, after 1989, the castle was returned to their original owners, Sternbergs, and it under complete reconstruction, for the time being.
Anyway, it is open for public on weekends in summer months. A preserve and pheasantry formed an undivisible part of the castle in past. However, all this was cancelled, but the trees and bush remained here. At present, there is to be found here nesting place of 37 sorts of small birds. Behind pheasantry, there are wet areas and small lakes, where the amphibious are reproducing. Original acid oak-forests are substituted with new pine trees. The rests of original numerous flora are to be found along paths and forests corners.
Throughout Vlčí důl Valley unregulatedd brook is flowing. The brook flows through Strašík pond, established in 16th century. However, its piers were broken, and the pond remained sluiced. Anyway, the pond was re-newed in the middle of last century. Today, the pond serves as water reservoir and for firemen purposes. Inside, there is fish held, and pond´s banks are destined for relax purposes. In reeds, there are to be found some sorts of birds, nesting. The paths leads you below Stará Kouřim piece of ground, up to its end on square in the town of Kouřim. This way is passable also for cyclists, but it could be rather dangerous to pass it after heavy rains.
