Circle Of St. John - Czech republic
Circle Of St. John
Benedictine Order from the community Ostrov/Davle founded a monastery here in the middle of 11th century. Later, within 1653-1661, it was changed into Baroque face. Subterranean church is hidden inside a monastery. Anyway, St.Ivan Cave is rather special. It is created not from limestone but from foam-minerals. This mineral belongs to limestone type, but it is created by means of coagulation from cold water. The water disappears here into bowl´s holes, during heavy rain time period. The people were unable to see or visit the places where the water flows, so the water was coloured, and was found that it leaves the caves after 20 hours, at St.John springing place. Anyway, the unique karst formations are to be found also nearby quarries „Na parapleti“.
From a rock over the monastery, you can enjoy marvellous view around the whole countryside. It is one of most beautiful circular views of Bohemian Karst.
