Stážiště Look Out Tower
This look out tower is situated on afforested hill Strážiště, 511 metres high, near to the town of Chomutov. It is constructed from stones, in order to overcome rough climate of Ore Mountains.
History
Just since 1882, the visitors could, except refreshment and relax, enjoy a view from its eight-cornered, 8 metres high tower. When the tower was out of order after 1st World War, local councillors decided to build here several buildings, according to plans of architect Kugler. So, on the top was built mountain hotel with restaurant and accommodation, including powerful stone look out tower. Finished building was solemny open for public on 12th December 1931, and it became immediately a popular relax place of Chomutov inhabitants. Stone look out tower is 20 metres high, and to enjoy the circular view, you have to mount 73 stages.
Present time
In 1990, the estate received its original name Strážiště. Anyway, the town sold it (for CZK 3 millions) to private enterpreneur. He invested further CZK 3 millions into reconstruction and arrangements. Moreover, the tower was changed to hotel, so that the access upstairs was not possible any more. However, the hotel burnt out completely in 2004. After a reconstrution, the look out tower would be open for public again.
