Ochtiná Aragonite Cave
Aragonite cave in Ochtinna is situated in Slovak Karst, west part of Košice region. All underground spaces were formed with soaking and rustying of precipitations along parallel tectonic disturbances. Within time period, estimated for 138 thousands of years, there was formed aragonite, under influence of climate and water solution (containing magnesium, iron and manganese). This is white or brown carbonate calcium.Its unique formations in the cave were involved it into survey of world nature heritage.
Total length of the cave makes 300 meters, and 144 meters are accessible for public. The cave was discovered by chance in 1954. Since 1956, investigation works were started, and since 1972, the cave was open for public.
Decoration elements: aragonite panelling of domes, halls and corridors in various forms, such as hair-pins, fans, spiral of bush formations.
