Water reservoir Vír is , first of all, the important store-magazine of drinking water for Brno and surroundings.

The dam-lake is situated on the river Svratka in the area of  Bohemia-Moravia Highlands (Českomoravská vysočina) at the southeast edge of Žďárské vrchy. This area belongs to the natural park of Svratecká mountain range (Svratecká hornatina).

You find here a lot of marked paths and many possibilities to sports activities.
