Humpolec - town educational path
This route wa sestablished in 2006, according to the project of Town´s Cultural and Information Centre in Humpolec. The route starts on Horní Square (the biggest square in town). Here, you can find most of cultural and historical places of interest. There are information tables for tourists here, orientation map for cyclists and tourists, as well as cycling finger posts. Information tables are placed nearby historical buildings and are presented in Czech. English and German languages. You will get the information about places you are staying, added with pictures. You find ten such information tables alltogether. First of all, you pass Dr. Aleš Hrdlička Museum. Originally, it was school building. Basic stone was laid in 1851. Anyway, the museum was created here in 1935. Inside, you find mineral collection exhibition, and several picture exhibitions are organized here from time to time. The path leads you, passing St.Nicholas Church. Essential reconstruction of its facade was effected in 2004. Another building which played an important role in local history, is an old law-court building. Here, from its windows, Karel Havlíček Borovský, Deputy for Humpolec district, spoke to crowds below, in 1848. Another two interesting buildings are those of two churches with town hall. In 1837, there was constructed in a town new town hall building. Now, you can find here a library. The building of today´s town hall was terminated in 1914. Stone portal from Orlík Castle was walled up here, with engraved chronology of 1548. Further, you find here a small church, the basic stone of which was laid in 1748, so it was the first tolerant church in Bohemia. The second church, Evangelical one, was constructed within 1861-1862. Anyway, church tower was managed to be terminated just in 1891. Before the church building, there was placed a synagogue here in 1760, with Baroque elements. Outside facade reconstruction was effected in 1996. On the route, you pass monument statue of President T. G. Masaryk, work of V. Majovsky.
