Once we introduced you the new interactive exhibition in the Moravian Karst Nature House we move bit further. Today we talk about our starting locality which is called Rocky Mill. This one is unique for many reasons.

Northwest of Brno, a short distance from Tišnov, lies the town of Lomnice in a picturesque valley. The local baroque church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary attracts visitors from a distance, and the local chateau or the former Jewish quarter and synagogue are also worth seeing. Although it is a small village, it offers quite a lot of tourist attractions and destinations. The picturesque village of Petrov boasts the Plže Nature Reserve, where you will find unusual wine cellars. Those who like wine will certainly not despise this village, because the area of the local cellars has a really magical atmosphere. Northwest of Brno, an unusual rock formation, the Malhostovická Pecka, rises from the flat landscape around Malhostovice. In the sunny habitats, the endangered large-flowered passerine grows here, which offers a wonderful spectacle in the spring.

The Holedná game reserve is absolutely exceptional, because not only children but also adults have the opportunity to see and admire the life of wildlife with their own eyes, as it is a purpose-built hunting facility used for professional breeding of mouflon and fallow deer on an area of 327 ha. Although the game reserve is thoroughly fenced on all sides so that the animals do not escape, the whole area looks very large and unrestrained.

When I have learned recently that Lonely Planet declared Brno the least interesting city in the Czech Republic I couldn’t understand. Then I realized that it was good they said it after all. Had crowds of tourists been going there every day as they go to Prague it would soon loose its magic. Brno is a city of universities, fun, culture and many small, lovely places. The turning clock in the shape of a male genitalia from which a small glass ball falls out every hour. Smoking road signs are really to be found only here… New York Times was much more smarter. They put Brno on the list of 52 places where to go in 2016!
