Due to bad weather we go to the Reinhold Messner – Firmian museum. It was opened in 2006 at Sigmundskron castle. I have to admit the castle is a great place to present the history of mountaineering.
On the second day of our expedition, we visit Passo Pordoi pass (2 239 m). More apt climbers climbed Piz Boe (3 115 m). The weather is great once again. Therefore, we will take a cable car up to Sass Pordoi (2 950 m).

Arco is a paradise for climbers in Italy. There are more than 20 climbing areas of varying difficulties and lengths. Everybody, boulders or fans of ferratas, will love the place. The town is a very pleasant place. Its picturesque town center has many restaurants and also climbers’ stores. A castle is the main landmark of Arco. It guards the town from the heights.
Me and my friend decided to make a trip. The planning was great. I had look around in many handbooks, searched for inspiration on travel agencies’ websites and so on. To become better climber you need to train as much as at any other sport. You training must be regular and constantly improve you. Still, you have to feel challenged enough overcome yourself.
As in any sport, you can exercise muscles you need to strengthen in order to last longer on a tall wall. To improve your climbing abilities you need to exercise palm muscles and forehand muscles in order to improve your grip. Also, you need to strengthen stomach muscles to improve your postural stability. These principles will be elaborated on in another article. This picturesque town is part of the UNESCO’s world heritage. You can find it in central Austria, in the area called Salzkammergut. This area is lined with high limestone ridges. There are many beautiful lakes.
Many interesting places not frequented by holidaymakers are in the Small Carpathians. These are mostly hills with beautiful vistas to the surroundings that lure tourists to climb them. Vapenna Hill is one of the three highest peaks in the Small Carpathians and it offers beautiful vistas as well.
Should you plan to do some hikes in Canada to see thick forests and green hills, and experience some adrenalin, or meet local residents – moose, bear, and there are many of them. They say you meet here more bears than people. You have to see Wells Gray Provincial Park, British Colombia.
Another great place of Jasper NP is about 29 km southwards off the town of Jasper. You will get there by following an ascending road going through dense forest. There are many turns and a parking lot at the end in 1762 m. There starts the Trail below Mount Edith Cavell.
When we asked at tourist information center, Whistler, where to hike in the area, the recommendations of the lady at the reception were same as the recommendations we got from our friends. They knew the area around Whistler very well. The weather got much better after two days. Therefore we decided for the most difficult trip in the area – to Wedgemount Lake located high in the mountains.
When one says the Rocky Mountains do you know what mountains he is talking about? The so called Rockies embellish western part of North America.
Should you want to climb up some via ferrata and lack finances to travel abroad you should explore possibilities of local via ferratas. One of them is in Semily, north Bohemia. It is a small training ferrata located in beautiful environment on the top of the rock on the Jizera. On the opposite side, there is a tourist trail (red) that runs across hanging bridges on the side of the rock.
