Hlubočepské plotny (Hlubočepské plates)
It is a small mountaineering area, offering plates-climbing with nice view over Prague. Left plate is formed with so called Velká stěna (Great Wall) and Malá plotna (Small Plate). Great Wall offers routes secured in very good way, however, they are rather difficult. There are four routes of difficulty stage from 7+ up to 9-/9. (UIAA). In Small Plate, you can find several easier routes. If somebody would like to try even more difficult routes, the security „Top Rope“ can be used. The routes are secured, mostly by means of rivets. There are altogether 13 routes available, with difficulty stage from 4 up to 8- (UIAA), however, its height is 15 m only. Left plate, as the whole, is determinated for experienced climbers, who appreciate plate-climbing with mostly miniature roundish and fixture in small ledges.
Right plate (sometimes called as Railway plate) is placed a couple of meters from Left plate and it is very near to railway rails. Similarly as on adjoining massif, also here predominates climbing of plate character. Nevertheless, there exist here easier routes with great fixtures for beginners. The climbers, who wish to try it only, can go round the rock and found the upper safe. The fixture is similar as in case of neighbouring plate, so the rivets prevail. Any
way, you can knock against older hook or ring. The fixture can be used in minimal way, and so in a route „Velký kruh“ (Great Ring), but it is not necessary. There are six secured routes only - of difficulty stage from 5 up to 8 (UIAA). However, a small number of routes is substituted with its height, reaching 25-30 m. In case of route „ Železniční“ (Railway) - its access is slipped - attention for a train passing around! Anyway, most of trains give the sound-sign in advance, in order to cram nearer to the wall. Do not worry, it does not seem so, but there is a plenty of space for safe hiding-place.
Access: as this area is placed in Prague, you can use local bus connections. From bus stop Na Knížecí (bus No. 104 and 120) to bus stop Hlubočepská it take 10 minutes approx., and from here to continue on foot through small street Pod Útesy (Under Cliffs), at the end you find narrow path up to the hillside. Following this path, you reach direct railway rail, where you find both plates.
Access by car: from Smíchov in direction to Hlubočepy, further Hlubočepská street under two viaducts, immediately after the second one to turn to „K Dalejím“ street. Here, you find some suitable places for parking. From here, you can continue on foot via small street „Na Placích“, after approx. 50 m turn to the right on small path. This path will be - after couple of meters - divided - we recommend you to turn always to the right - it is the shortest route. Nevertheless, following any path, you reach - sooner or later - the rocks .
Height: 10-35 m
Fixture: rivets, borhooks, circles, (rings), hooks (use of your own fixtures exceptionally – it is not necessary).
Difficulty stage: 4 -9-/9 UIAA
Equipment recommended: rope of 60 m length is sufficient (also 50 m length is O.K.), 8-10 pieces of snap-hooks (carbins), helmet, climbing boots, or a pair of wedgings (smaller diameter), 1 flat sewed loop.
Accommodation: no problem – it is in Prague, eventually camping could be effected directly under rocks.
