SK: High Tatras – Trek Up to Jehneci Pyramidal Peak
Vysoke Tatra sis one of the most beautiful nature gems in Slovakia. These high mountains lure tourists for their grandiosity, monumentality and immesurable beauty of their deep valleys and sharp pyramidal peaks reaching up to the skies. Jehneci pyramidal peak (2 230 m) one of the accessible summits in the High Tatras. The climb is amazing and valuable experience.
Jehneci Pyramidal Peak – The Northeast Bastoin of the High Tatra
Jehneci peak is the highest summit of the southeastern region of the High Tatra mountains. It is a dominant part of this part of the mountains. Especially from Kopske saddle in the Bielanske Tatra you have a breathtaking view over this marvelous peak. Jehneci peak looks like a disctinct, unconquerable peak with steep rock walls. Jehneci peak (2 230 m) is situated at the eastern edge of the High Tatra main ridge. It is located at the place where two side-ridges meet the main ridge - in the area between Zelene Pleso valley, Kolove valley, and Bila plase valley. Jehneci peak is accessible via marked tourist trails which set off from several places: Tatranska Lomnica, Tatranske Metliare, Kezmarska Bila Voda, Sklanate Pleso, Tatranska Kotlina, or Zdiar. All these trails meet at one important place – U Zeleneho Plesa cabin. The yellow trail starts at the direction boards (this is also an important tourist trails crossroad in the eastern part of the High Tatras).
How to Reach Jehneci Pyramidal Peak?
Our trail led us up to the peak of this peak. Our trek starts in Kezmarska Bila Voda locality. There we get on the yellow tourist trail which would take us into forest. Once we get to Nat Metliary crossroads we follow the blue tourist trail. After easy uphill walk we reach another crossroads of Salvejovy Spring. There we turn on the yellow trail. We go through forest which then would start to disappear. To our right side we started noticing amazing views over the real giants of the Tatras - Maly Kezmarsky pyramidal peak, Kezmarsky pyramidal peak, Lomnicky pyramidal peak, Pysny pyramidal peak, Skopova mountain, Cerny pyramidal peak, and Jestrabi Tower. These petrified titans surround part of hte valley in the middle of which there is the little Zelene lake. We reach U Zeleneho Plesa cabin. There we take a break before difficult uphill walk.
Climbing Up to the Summit
We follow the yellow trail at U Zeleneho Plesa cabin. We climb steeply until we reach the lower section of Cervena valley. We pass by Cervene lake. There are beautiful vies over Zeleneho plesa valley and the surrounding pyramidal peaks. There is Jestrabi tower (2 137 m) ahead of us. To the right we see parts of Kozi pyramidal peak (2 111 m). Then we walk across brash, go uphill again and reach the most difficult section along our trek for a part of the tourist trail goes along steep rocky terrain. Therefore, there are chains for visitors to hold on to. Once we get over with this section, we enter Kolovy passage which gets us atop the ridge. There we see amazing Kolova valley and the northeastern part of the High Tatra. The trail goes on along rocky terreain. Eventually, we reach the summit of Jehneci pyramidal peak. The view we get at 2 230 m is nothing but grandiose. The entire Belianske Tatra is in front of us. We happen to notice Havran (2 152 m) which is the highest mountain of this limestone ridge. Zdiarska vidle (2 142 m) is what we see next. In the distance in the westward direction, there are silhouettes of the High Tatra in Poland. To the south, we see the gigantic mountain of Kolovy pyramidal peak (2 418 m). On the adjacent ridge, we recognize the summit of Kozi pyramidal peak. In the background, grandiose Maly Kezmarsky and Lomnicky pyramidal peaks rise upto the sky.
Amazing and great are these vista. Valleys dotted with lakes, colosal mountains of the Tatras and their sharp summits emerge from the clouds. To see this with your bare eyes is an amazing experience. This is one the reasons why Jehneci pyramidal peak is so popular and frequented.

The Western Tatras is very popular and frequented mountain range. Treks here, the main ridge especially, are amazing and people who go there long remember it. Ostry Rohac is perhaps the most attractive and most well known peak in this area. Many tourists hike across it every year.
The High Tatras are among the most popular places for tourists in Slovakia. In summer, many visitors from home and abroad come here to enjoy the magic of mountains or do some hiking. Sedlo pod Ostrvou is a popular spot for easy alpine tourism.
In the northeastern cornerof Slovakia, in the region of Presov, you will discover the small town of Stara Lubovna. A majestic castle of the same name rises above the town.. Let us now visit it together and see the exhibition in the Museum of Folk Architecture.
The fact that the Polish mountains are often neglected by the Czechs is pity. However, mountains in Poland are comparable to the Krkonose or the Tatras in Slovakia. However, some consider Poland to be cheaper. We consider it a must go!
This week we visit the Tatras as well. However, their cognition will no longer be child's eyes, but rather a factual way. We will focus on their history, monuments, nature and tourism through a new and richly illustrated tourist guide - Tatra - from the family publishing house Dajama.
This year the apartment with a sea view is probably not waiting for you, but on the mountains. But that doesn't matter at all! Along with the summer came the right time to choose the ideal place for a holiday. There is a period during which you recharge your batteries, have fun and have many extraordinary experiences. But in order for the planned holiday to really meet your expectations and purpose, you must find time to choose it, think everything through and plan ahead.
The visitors to the Tatras region are familiar to well known tourist restorst and well known points of interest of the amazing High Tatras mountain range. However, another mountain range is no less splendid. It neighbors the High Tatras in the east. We talk about the Belianske Tatras. The area of the Siroke Seat is a well known and popular point of interest to many mountain hikers.
Like the High Tatra West Tatra is also popular area. You can have some remarkable outdoor experience there. Both mountains seems to be one whole. However, unlike the High Tatra, West Tatra are lower. Its mountains are more covered of grass. Barance mountain (2 185 m) is a popular locality by tourists. This mountain is situated in the south of this mountain ridge.
In the eastern part of the High Tatras in the end of Zelené pleso valley there is the Cottage by Zelené pleso. This popular place is often called “Brnčalka”. The cottage lies by an emerald green lake surrounded by massive peaks of the High Tatras. The history of the cottage began towards the end of the 19th century. Come with us and learn about this cottage in the middle of mountains.
In the second part of our series of articles on safety in the mountains we will deal with little Alps High Tatra, which are characteristic of their unique alpine mountains in Slovakia. Just at the end of last year, I came to an understanding with my friend that this year's St. Valentine holiday we would prepare for our partners an unrepeatable experience in a form of so called „long weekend“ in High Tatra Mountains.
Fall is perfect for walks in nature. Today we follow spa sidewalk, which is less known to the public, that we accidentally discovered in the High Tatras, in the village of Stary Smokovec.
The one who loves adventure and is reasonably physically fit, undoubtedly would like a few tips about easy winter hikes Velka Studena Valley, located in the Slovak part of the High Tatras. A year-round open cottage, Zbojnicka Chata (1960 meters), which waits for us in this valley, offers a place to rest, refreshment and cozy accommodation. We can spend here a few days without getting away from the surrounding of Tatranian peaks. Keep in mind, however, that the motion in the Tatras in winter outside marked trails is very limited according to the TANAP rules!
Soon winter closure of Tatranian tourist trails (15th June 2014) weill end. Therefore, in advance we bring you an interesting alpine hike trip. Our goal today is the peak of the peaks, the symbol of Slovakia – majestic Krivan in the High Tatras.
It is not necessary to provide you with some extensive introduction of the High Tatras. These mountains are simply splendid. They lay in the heart of Europe, being a well-known and popular destination among domestic and foreign tourists. Mostly those who love alpine treks travel here frequently. Koprovsky peak (2367 m) is one of the most famous and most visited points of interest there.
As many other places in the High Tatras (2314 meters) even Bystre Sedlo is not that well known among tourists. Perhaps, it is given to the fact that there is no cottage that would offer tourists some refreshments after being whole day on food. Or, perhaps, the route is not leading to any of the High Tatras’ peaks. There are only a few people but you will definitely enjoy your time in untouched Tatran nature.
