SK: High Tatras – Trek Up to Jehneci Pyramidal Peak

Published: 23.11.2016
Vysoke Tatra sis one of the most beautiful nature gems in Slovakia. These high mountains lure tourists for their grandiosity, monumentality and immesurable beauty of their deep valleys and sharp pyramidal peaks reaching up to the skies. Jehneci pyramidal peak (2 230 m) one of the accessible summits in the High Tatras. The climb is amazing and valuable experience.

Jehneci Pyramidal Peak – The Northeast Bastoin of the High Tatra
Belianské Tatry s vrchy Havran a Ždiarská vidle
Jehneci peak is the highest summit of the southeastern region of the  High Tatra mountains. It is a dominant part of this part of the mountains. Especially from Kopske saddle in the Bielanske Tatra you have a breathtaking view over this marvelous peak. Jehneci peak looks like a disctinct, unconquerable peak with steep rock walls. Jehneci peak (2 230 m) is situated at the eastern edge of the High Tatra main ridge. It is located at the place where two side-ridges meet the main ridge - in the area between Zelene Pleso valley, Kolove valley, and Bila plase valley. Jehneci peak is accessible via marked tourist trails which set off from several places: Tatranska Lomnica, Tatranske Metliare, Kezmarska Bila Voda, Sklanate Pleso, Tatranska Kotlina, or Zdiar. All these trails meet at one important place – U Zeleneho Plesa cabin. The yellow trail starts at the direction boards (this is also an important tourist trails crossroad in the eastern part of the High Tatras).

How to Reach Jehneci Pyramidal Peak?
Dolina Zeleného plesa
Our trail led us up to the peak of this peak. Our trek starts in Kezmarska Bila Voda locality. There we get on the yellow tourist trail which would take us into forest. Once we get to Nat Metliary crossroads we follow the blue tourist trail. After easy uphill walk we reach another crossroads of Salvejovy Spring. There we turn on the yellow trail. We go through forest which then would start to disappear. To our right side we started noticing amazing views over the real giants of the Tatras  - Maly Kezmarsky pyramidal peak, Kezmarsky pyramidal peak, Lomnicky pyramidal peak, Pysny pyramidal peak, Skopova mountain, Cerny pyramidal peak, and Jestrabi Tower. These petrified titans surround part of hte valley in the middle of which there is the little Zelene lake. We reach U Zeleneho Plesa cabin. There we take a break before difficult uphill walk.

Climbing Up to the Summit
the view from atop Jehneci pyramidal peak over the Belianske Tatras
We follow the yellow trail at U Zeleneho Plesa cabin. We climb steeply until we reach the lower section of Cervena valley. We pass by Cervene lake.  There are beautiful vies over Zeleneho plesa valley and the surrounding pyramidal peaks. There is Jestrabi tower (2 137 m) ahead of us. To the right we see parts of Kozi pyramidal peak (2 111 m). Then we walk across brash, go uphill again and reach the most difficult section along our trek for a part of the tourist trail goes along steep rocky terrain. Therefore, there are chains for visitors to hold on to. Once we get over with this section, we enter Kolovy passage which gets us atop the ridge. There we see amazing Kolova valley and the northeastern part of the High Tatra. The trail goes on along rocky terreain. Eventually, we reach the summit of Jehneci pyramidal peak. The view we get at 2 230 m is nothing but grandiose. The entire Belianske Tatra is in front of us. We happen to notice Havran (2 152 m) which is the highest mountain of this limestone ridge. Zdiarska vidle (2 142 m) is what we see next. In the distance in the westward direction, there are silhouettes of the High Tatra in Poland. To the south, we see the gigantic mountain of Kolovy pyramidal peak (2 418 m). On the adjacent ridge, we recognize the summit of Kozi pyramidal peak. In the background, grandiose Maly Kezmarsky and Lomnicky pyramidal peaks rise upto the sky.

Amazing and great are these vista. Valleys dotted with lakes, colosal mountains of the Tatras and their sharp summits emerge from the clouds. To see this with your bare eyes is an amazing experience. This is one the reasons why Jehneci pyramidal peak is so popular and frequented.
