CZ, Beskydy: Javořinka Picture Trail – VIDEO
The village of Staré Hamry covers a large area and consists mainly of former pastoral houses and settlements scattered on the hills around today's dam Šance. Soak up the local atmosphere, enjoy the beautiful views not only of Lysá hora and other Beskydy peaks, but also of the Mala Fatra under good conditions. Find out at least a little about the local pastoral history.
Set off from the car park in Samčanka on an eight-kilometer circuit, which was created by connecting the educational trail Javořina - Němčanka - Samčanka and Image Roads in Javořinka (somewhere the name Picture Road Javořina is used).
The picture trail really got its name thanks to the images. Today, in the local settlements you will find almost only holiday homes, but before that people lived here all year round and in winter it was very difficult for them to get down to the village due to snow and frost.
The children who went to school probably had the hardest time. To make their journey more pleasant, Mrs. Josefa Tomášková, known as Pepinka, decorated the path from the Javořinka settlement with colorful pictures mounted on tall spruces. She placed seating around the path and carefully made wooden roofs over the wells, a bell tower and an orientation map. She supplemented everything with verses and wise lessons. Thanks to the activity of the locals, the picture path has been restored and we believe that your children will also be thrilled with it.
If you are already at the Šance dam, stop at the neo-Gothic church in Staré Hamry and the monument to Maryčka Magdónová, a figure from the poem of the same name by Petr Bezruč.
Several trips to the top of Lysá hora also start by the Ostravice river and you will find countless nice accommodation options.
Especially if you are from the western part of our country, we sometimes recommend giving the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy a multi-day visit. Compared to the Czech mountains, a different landscape, nature and people await you. And most importantly a lot of beautiful places to discover.
