Jeseníky Mountains - Czech republic

Protected Natural Area Jeseníky Mountains is the  most norhern mountain range of Czech Republic, containing Hrubý Jeseník and the respective parts of Hanušovice and Zlaté Hory Highlands  of total area of 74 000 ha. It was declared here the birds reservation  area Jeseníky

(52228 ha) and important birds area Jeseníky (74391 ha).

Biskupska kupa is a hill, placed in a distance of 2,5 kms from the town of Zlaté Hory on Czech-Polish border. This hill is the highest point of Zlaté Hory Highlands. Here, it is to be found the highest situated look out tower in Jeseníky Mountains.

History:

At first, there was placed here, since 1890, wooden view construction. However, it collapsed six years later, owing to strong wind. So, in 1898, there was built here stone look out tower, constructed by Moravia-Silesia-Sudeten Club. Solemny opening was effected on 26th August 1898. However, after 2nd World Ward, the building was in very bad technical state, and also the interess dropped, so it happened that in 1990 it reached its average stand. Since 3rd August 1996, the look out tower is open for public again.

The look out tower is open daily, for moderate fee, since May till October. In period since November till April, it is open on weekend an public holidays only.
