Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) - Czech republic

These mountains are situated in north-east part of Bohemia on the frontier with Poland.

Giant Mountains are the highest mountain range in Czech Republic. The highest point of this range -and at the  same time of the whole Czech Republic –is Sněžka the peak 1602 m high.

The mountains of  Krkonoše  are, thanks to big quantity of rare sorts of plants and animals declared in 1963  as National Park (KRNAP).

Today we set out to one of the most visited tourist areas in the Czech Republic, the majestic and highest mountains of the country - the Giant Mountains. Our goal will be the largest and oldest mountain cabin of Luční bouda (1410 m above sea level).

Should you like skiing, snowboarding, or cross-country skiing, consider a stay at Prichovice, a mountain village which belongs to Korenov town. The former is situated on the borderline of the Jizerske and Krkonose mountain. It is close to Harrachov, and Rokytnice nad Jizerou. The E65 road runs there. You can find accommodation at some of local timbered cabins.

Today we go to nine cities, which, with one exception, are located in Eastern Bohemia and are united not only by a common history, but also by the fact that it belonged to the Czech queens in the past. Liberec lies in the north of Bohemia and is a statutory town with approximately 104,000 inhabitants. The town is abundantly frequented during the winter season. For the rest of the year, people are mainly driving to the aquapark or to the IQLANDIA Liberec planetarium.

If you are heading for a trip to our highest mountains, Spindleruv Mlyn is one of the best bases at any time of a year. It lies at the very end of the road, which leads from Vrchlabi through the valley upstream of the Elbe river to the foot of the Krkonose Mountains (Giant Mountains).

On the western edge of Janske Laze, in the direction of Cerny Dul, another tree trail was opened one year ago. It is the third wooden lookout tower going up into the clouds in the Czech Republic. Similar buildings are enjoying popularity in Germany.

You ride down the hill to the valley. Surrounding you are green hills. White buildings of local automobile factory brighten you. These are the halls of Skoda car company. Since 2012, gearboxes have been produced there. However, we go further into the center. The main landmark in Vrchlabi is St Vavrinec church. Its belfry hardly fits within the lens cope of a camera.

About Rokytnice nad Jizerou was spoken about as the most indebted city of Czech republic a few years ago. Today is this town overshadowed by Lysá Hora, the most visited one of Krkonoše mountains.

It does not exist any most popular locality, as far as ski-jumping or ski-fly are concerned, as Harrachov in Giant Mountains. Despite the fact that jumping area looks rather deserted during working days, you can feel always sporting spirit of this important mountain resort on each step.
