Javorníky - Slovakia

Extent: 884 km²

It is sandstone mountain range belonging to Slovak-Moravian Carpathian Mountains area.

It is located in western part of Slovakia in districts of Kysucké Nové Město, Žilina, Bytča, Čadca, Považská Bystrica and Púchov.

Highest peak: Javorník (1071 m).

Surface: mostly covered with pine-tree forests. Anyway, there are appearing here also mixed and leafy woods, first of all oak forests. Grassy overgrown is to be found on places where trees are missing.

Climatic area: moderately warm, colder.

Relief: in northern part mountaneous, in southern part hilly.

Surrounded by faboulously beautiful nature, on Czech-Slovak borders, on the main ridge of Javorníky mountains, since 1932 stands beautiful wooden Mountain Hotel Portáš. During many years of its existence many tourists have made it their favorite place to shelter from bad weather, or to rest deservedly and consume fine meals after exhausting trip. Or people prefer the place just to spend few days in the middle of fabulous nature. We are no exception and the hotel and its surroundings simply captured our heart.

At the end of May me and my husband went on an interesting trip alongside main ridge of Javorníky mountains. Our journey began in the Mountain Hotel Portáš and continued to the highest mountain of Velký Javorník mountain range. Come with us and admire the beauties of nature's spring.

The Klapy range (Cikánka), a nature reserve, is situated close to a klippe belt. Several nature trails run to its summit. It is an easy hike suitable for children. Take a look at our photos and take it as inspiration to pack your own backpack and set off into the mountains.
