Laborec Highland - Slovakia

Laborec Highland is placed in northeast part of Slovakia, in Region of Prešov, in Stropkov, Medzilaborce, Humenné and Snina districts. The complex belongs to Low Beskydy area, which form the part of Outer East Carpathian Mountains.

Short characteristics:
Laborec Highland is extensive mountain range, created with paleogene mineral rocks of outer granite, mostly with clays and sandstone. The mountain range has highland relief, divided into ridges´system with valleys, basins and furrows. The surface of Laborec Highland is covered mostly with leafy woods, where beech-wood trees are dominating. On non-afforested areas in valleys and basins, you can find meadows, pasture lands and arable areas.
Most of this territory is drained with Laborec-river, including its numerous tributaries. Udava and Cirocha rivers are most important from them. South part of mountain range belongs to warm, whereas the north part belongs to moderately warm, and the highest situated areas into cold climatic belt. North-east part of Laborec Highland is a part of East Carpathian Mountains Protected Area.
