Levoča Hills are placed in north of Slovakia, in east direction from High Tatra Mountains, in Region of Prešov. Except Levoča district town, the hills penetrate to Kežmarok, Sabinov and Lubovňa districts.

SK: Spisska Nova Ves – The Gate to Paradise
The town of Spisska Nova Ves situated in the Hornadska basin and surrounded by the Levoca Hills and parts of the Slovak Ore Mountains. The town is also located on the Bratislava–Kosice railroad. This makes the town easy accessible to all travelers even though they lack means of transport such as car. Just to spent a moment in the town in order to move on to the local national would deprive you of many interesting things you may find within.
The greatest lure posses the historical district where you may find preserved architecture. The lentiform square is one of its most prominent landmarks and it belongs to the most splendid open areas in Europe. There is impressive church belfry which is at the same time the highest belfry in Slovakia. It belongs to Roman-Catholic church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Climb up this 87 meter tower. You have a splendid vista on the top to enjoy. Sculptures by Master Paul of Levoca decorate the inside of the church.
Among other remarkable structures are, for instance, the town hall in the Classicist style, Evangelical church in the shape of a cross, Provincni House to which belongs the so called Levocska Gate. In the latter, the Museum of Spis resides in the present. Also, there is the Art Noveau building of Reduta which is the home to Spisske Theater and Municipal Culture Center. The Marian column is another precious landmark. It rises before the aforementioned church. An iron box was inserted into the column during the reconstruction in 2010. Inside, contemporary artefacts were put to provide testimony of the present to the future generations. The Artists of Spis Gallery or a zoo, the most recently founded zoo in Slovakia are just other of many places worthy of visit. Around 310 animals live in the zoo at the present.
We should tell you something about history of this beautiful town. The first written note dates back to 1268. However, researches point out to earlier settlement. Very interesting is the year 1412. Then King Sigismund put Spisska Nova Ves to pawn to Poland. The town remained in pawn for 360 years. Yet during this time the town flourished. Another interesting fact about the town are its ore deposits (silver, iron, and copper). In the past, these ores boosted town´s prosperity. We should mention the world-famous Master Konrad´s Gothic iron-casting workshop. Many bells and baptismal fonts were produced there. Still a memorial is in the town remembering this important persona. The memorial is also told to be the place of wishes-come true. In case you would like to get some taste of the town´s history today than you should come here in the time of Spissky Fair. It has been regularly held for over half-a-century. Many crafts and arts of the past could be seen being presented there.
Inhabitants of Spisska Nova Ves are another feature the town may boast with apart from history and landmarks. They hold several strange records. For instance we mention Slovak records such as – the longest drawing on sidewalk, the longest paper chain, the longest baguette, the largest pasta mosaic, or the longest roll.
Other royal towns are in close proximity to Spisska Nova Ves - Levoca (11 km) and Kezmarok (30 km). There are fascinating landmarks nearby as well - Spissky castle (25 km) or Markusovsky chateau (7 km). Including nature landmarks - Dobsinska ice cave (43 km) and also the aforementioned zmíněný Slovensky Raj (5 km), High Tatras (39 km) or Vrbov (22 km), a place renowned for its thermal springs. Therefore, we only can recommend you to see Spisska Nova Ves. Beautiful town and beautiful East Slovak nature. Such a combination is hard to find anywhere nearby.
