Malé Karpaty (Small Carpathian Mountains) - Slovakia

Extent: 820 square kilometres.

This mountain range is located in west part of Slovakia and divide - similarly as fortification - Záhorská plainland from  Danube plainland. The complex belongs to Fatra-Tatra area, which forms a part of West Carpathian Mountains. It is divided into four next parts, such as: Devínské, Pezinské, Brezovské and Čachtické.

Highest peak: Záruby (768 m).

Surface: afforested, including beech-wood and oak forests.

Climatic area: rather warm, in higher localities moderately warm area.

The territory was declared as Preserved Countryside Area in 1976.

Slovakia is a country that is rich in castles, chateaus, and small castles. We could count hundreds of them here. We planned couple of trips for our free time. One of them took us back in time to the middle ages. We saw mysterious Cachticky castle.

Many interesting places not frequented by holidaymakers are in the Small Carpathians. These are mostly hills with beautiful vistas to the surroundings that lure tourists to climb them. Vapenna Hill is one of the three highest peaks in the Small Carpathians and it offers beautiful vistas as well.

Bratislava is the capital and the largest city in Slovakia. The Danube flows through this city. Five bridgest (well, technically four today as the Stary Bridge is being disassembled only to be replaced with a new one). The most interesting si the SNP bridge built in the 20th century. There are couple of distributaries going to nowhere yet surrounded with riparian forests. Bratislava borders two countries – Hungary and Austria.

Not long ago we visited silent part of Bratislava near the historic center. It is not visited very much by tourists. Inhabitants of Bratislava, however, love this location. Today we continue along the Hlboka Road. We will visit the Church of Our Lady of the Snows situated right above the Lurdska Cave.

Recently, unique Dinosaurium exhibition welcomed its first visitors, and our team was there. The exhibition is one of the largest collections of dinosaur skeletons in the world.
