Malé Karpaty (Small Carpathian Mountains) - Slovakia

Extent: 820 square kilometres.

This mountain range is located in west part of Slovakia and divide - similarly as fortification - Záhorská plainland from  Danube plainland. The complex belongs to Fatra-Tatra area, which forms a part of West Carpathian Mountains. It is divided into four next parts, such as: Devínské, Pezinské, Brezovské and Čachtické.

Highest peak: Záruby (768 m).

Surface: afforested, including beech-wood and oak forests.

Climatic area: rather warm, in higher localities moderately warm area.

The territory was declared as Preserved Countryside Area in 1976.

We have already seen the Waterworks garden and its many attractions. We followed the Karloveske river-branch towards the botanical garden at Comenius University, Bratislava. It was a very first botanical garden in Slovakia.

We continue in our walks through green spots of Bratislava even today. We will visit only recently opened Waterworks Garden. The garden is located nearby the Danube River in Karlova Ves city borrough.

We crossed the new Old Bridge (the last week's article) and reached Danube's right riverbank, the borrough of Petrzalka. After this beautiful bridge, two beautiful landmarks caught our attention. The first one was the water tower. The other a noise coming from around the riverbank.

Presidential garden was the point of interest we saw last week. Today we see another great place in Bratislava - the city walls. They take you to the Middle Ages for free and also shelter you from the heat of summer.

The Male Karpaty mountains is a very beautiful mountain range situated in the west of Sloavkia. There are many interesting paleontological and geological localities in the south of the range. The significance of this area led to foundation of a new Slovak geopark - the Sandberg-Pajstun geopark (SAPAG).
