SK, Low Tatras: Magurka Cabin– Incomprehensible Beauty
Published: 22.9.2019
Today we take you to a place surrounded by untouched nature where you can relax from the rushed everyday reality. We will set out to the picturesque Low Tatras, more precisely to the village of Magurka, which is part of the village Partizánská Ľupča.

Liptov region offers many beautiful places and one of them is 15 km long Ľupčianska valley on the northern side of the Low Tatras, at the end of which is a small mining settlement from the 14th century - Magurka. The Ľupčianka brook flows through the valley and the III. class, after which you get to the settlement. You can also cycle and walk from Partizanske Lupca or Liptovska Luzna along blue, green and yellow marked trails (there is a bus stop), from the neighboring village of Železno or from the saddle of Zámostské hole.

The Magurka settlement, once also called Zlatá (Golden), was a refuge for miners who mined gold, silver and antimony in its vicinity. Initially, these minerals were mined by hand, later by machine. At the time of the greatest boom, there were allegedly hundreds of miners lived and worked here, but after 1923 mining was terminated and the settlement gradually became depopulated. Its great importance in the then monarchy is also documented by gold samples placed in mineralogical collections in the Kunsthistorische Museum in Vienna or in the Budapest Museum. In addition to the shafts and mining works scattered in the surrounding forests, you can currently see a mining neo-Gothic church (Chapel of the Rosary of the Virgin Mary) from 1911 with a huge ratchet in the tower used for convening miners from all around. Here you will also find relatively renovated mining houses, a Ruppeldt family house, centuries-old trees, modern recreational buildings, and if you are lucky enough to meet a handful of indigenous people.

After a short history detour we move deeper into the countryside to the Magurka Cabin. This cottage offers real relaxation. A clean and simple standard is waiting for you, with a home-cooked kitchen and friendly staff to meet almost every wish (even turn off the wi-fi signal). You will enjoy the noise of trees, the sounds of nature, true darkness and the sky full of stars.

Chata Magurka

Relax in a wooden vat, roast sausages on an open fireplace with a shelter, have fun with the children on the playground or go for a walk. Even during the summer you can enjoy unrestrained hiking, where you will not get through the crowds of tourists. You can borrow electric bikes and experience a real adventure. In winter, you can go skiing, snowshoeing and downhill skiing, which are within easy reach. Of course we can not forget the cross-country skiers, who await literally a cross-country paradise.

Chata Magurka

Surrounded by forests in the highest village in Slovakia, Chata Magurka offers quality meals without semi-finished products, craft beer and coffee from home roasters. The excellent staff can prepare a barbecue and hiking package full of goodies upon request. Mushroomers will take away full baskets of mushrooms (during mushroom picking stays) and nature lovers can take part in so-called eco weekends.

The cabin and its surroundings offer much! Do not miss the opportunity to win an exclusive gift voucher for 2 persons for 2 nights including breakfast at the Magurka Cottage in the Low Tatras, by participating in the Slovak recent photo contest.

But even if you do not win, be sure to come here, the surroundings will enchant you with its incomprehensible beauty of nature, mining atmosphere and omnipresent peace.
