Oravská Magura - Slovakia

Extent: 176 km²

This sandstone mountain range is located in north-west part of Slovakia in districts of Námestovo, Tvrdošín and Dolný Kubín. It belongs to Central Beskydy Mountails, forming part of West Carpathian Mountain Range.

Highest peak: Minčol (1392 m).

Surface: very afforested, mostly with fir-wood and beech-wood forests, partially with pine-woods. In upper localities, there are appearing overgrowns of blueberries and meadow plants.

From climatic point of view, the area belongs to colder belt, characterictic with cold winters and hard rains.

We recently visited a charming Orava town near the Polish border. In the upper part of the Orava Basin, in the valley of the Oravice River, lies the village of Trstená, which pleasantly surprised us with its many unique monuments, interesting history, remarkable personalities and a kind of uplifting atmosphere.

One sunny day we came to a decision that we need to get out of summer heat in the city. We packed our things and left Bratislava for north of the country, for Orava. As we are not particularly physically fit and we did not want to visit many tourist we chose Prislop saddle to be the destination.

Autumn is the most colorful season of the year and the best for tourism. You need to count on early sunsets but the sun is not so hot. Therefore, we decided to go up into the mountains.

Today we visit the Orava region to Klin town (near the district town of Namestovo). A projection that split two rivers gave the village its name. It is an ideal place to start your trips to the surroundings. Nevertheless, the village is also an interesting place on its own.

In the midst of summer we spent a couple of days in the Oravian village of Oravska Lesna. It is surrounded by beautiful nature of Slovakian Beskydy and Oravska Magura.

On the shore of the Orava dam a district town of Namestovo is located. I ti surrounded by beautiful hills of Oravska Magura and Podbeskydska Highlands. Thanks to its location and picturesque nature around (which is part of Horna Orava Protected Natural Reservation) this town became a center of local culture and tourism.

Do you belong among winter sports lovers? Also, you can not imagine a winter holiday without a good snow and well-maintained slopes? Although, I have to admit that in recent years we go with a group on skiing for one week. Usually, we go abroad, but the Slovak mountains, we did not forgot about. My favorite places have been for years the Kysuce and Orava regions.
