Slovakia Paradise (Slovenský ráj) - Slovakia
Extent: 19 736 ha
This mountain range forms part of Slovak Iron Ore Mountains, belonging to complex of Spiš-Gemer Karst. It is located in north part of Slovakia in districts of Spišská Nová Ves and Poprad. It is made from limestones and dolomites, and partially from sandstones and slates.
Highest peak: Ondrejisko (1270 m)
Surface: is afforested, in south there are to be found fir-woods and beech-woods, in north pine-wood forests.
All this area is very popular and visited by tourists, including its nature beauties and karst caves, canyons and precipices.
Protected Countryside Area Slovakian Paradise was declared as National Park in 1988.
Recently, a practical book re-edition of tourist guides with a backpack around Slovakia from the family publishing house Dajama saw the light of day. In addition to attractive tourist destinations, it also brings tourist maps.
We recently had a nice hiking tour in the Slovak Paradise National Park and now you come with us. The starting point is the Podlesok recreation area, from where you will follow the blue-marked hiking trail to the Hrdlo Hornád crossroads.
After paying our visit to Spišská Bystrá we moved on to the area of the Slovak Paradise mountain range, more precisely to the tourist center Podlesok, which is located in the valley of the Velká Bílá voda brook.
Slovakia is full of immense natural wealth, attractive sites that are regularly visited by crowds of tourists from different parts of the world. The Slovak Paradise is undoubtedly one of these key tourist sites. Today we are going to the Piecky Gorge, where we take a beautiful hike in the wild nature.
After quite a long time we set off to nature again. This time we take you to Kysel gorge in Slovensky Raj national park.
Last week we set off to explore Slovensky Raj, the area between Smizany and Cingov villages. This part of the trail goes across meadows, forest paths and roads. However, there was greater challenge ahead. Prulom Hornadu is area known for is know climbing irons and safety chains.
Summer is getting closer. It is the best time for tourism. We take you to a paradise, a Slovakian one actually. We start our trek in Smizany village. There also starts a nature trail.
In the eastern Slovak in Spiš area is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges - Slovak Paradise, which since 1988 declared as a National Park. In the rugged area laced with ravines, streams and waterfalls are hidden gorge, which is really worth seeing.

As mentioned in our first chapter of our journey, camping place Podlesok could be an ideal starting point for visits of most impressive valleys, such as Suchá Belá or Piecky, or 6 kms distant Velký Sokol Valley.
