Vihorlat - Slovakia
Extent: 50,9 ha
Vihorlat is a mountain range of volcanic origin, located in eastern part of Slovakia, on border of Prešov and Košice regions, in districts of Michalovce and Humenné.
Highest peak: Vihorlat (1076 m)
Surface: afforested, thick (dense) beech-wood forests of virgin forests character
Thanks to scarce population there was preserved here untouched nature with rare flora and many animals.
Climatic zone: moderate and cold
Vihorlat was declared as Protected Country Area in 1973.

The weather in the following morning was amazing and sunny. Upon packing all of our things we set off. Following the yellow tourist trail we reached a red route. Then we followed the green route which got us to Polana. There we climbed an unmarked trail up to the summit of the Vihorlat, the peak of the day.

The Vihorlat (or the Vihorlat Hills) is a volcanic mountain range south of the Bukovske Hills. Majority of this mountain range formed in the Neogene. Its geomorphological formation finished about 9 million years ago.
