From the geological point of view, this mountains are made mostly by metamorphosed rock. Larger part of the Hohe Tauern is located in the bundeslands of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. Small part of this mountain range is located in northern Italy, in the province of Bolzano.

The Hohe Tauern national park belongs to the most popular areas in the Austrian Alps. Nature here is nothing but magical. Me and my friend decided to make a trip. The planning was great. I had look around in many handbooks, searched for inspiration on travel agencies’ websites and so on. Eventually, we agreed upon seeing a beautiful place near Salzburg. The village of Abtenau which would serve as the base for our trips around.
Glaciers are characteristic and natural part of mountains. Glacier’s erosion adds to creation of alpine relief. Glacier is also a source of water. In Austrian Alps, there are many small or large glaciers. The longest and most well-known is Pasterze, the Hohe Tauern.

Winter is here again. For some, it is perhaps too cold and harsh, but to me it is the most popular season of the year. Everything is hidden under a fluffy white blanket of snow and acts somewhat calmer, and even cleaner than the rest of the year. It is also a time of winter holidays in the mountains, meeting with friends over a glass of mulled wine or it is a time of a great cabbage soup, which will warm you up in this season.
During our bike trials we stoped in the town of Hainburg. This medieval town with Hainburg castle above hides many natural and historical mysteries. One of them is Röthelstein castle ruins hidden in a national park.
