The Gutenstein Alps is not the highest mountain range in Austria yet there some fascinating localities interesting for tourists. This not pretty high mountain range created by the Mesozoic Era we put to the Northern Limestone Alps. Tourists and lovers of nature are two often visited localities only 90 km away from Slovakian borders. In Lower Austria near the village of Muggendorf, there are two fascinating natural sights the waterfalls of Myrafälle and Steinwandklamm gorge. Both localities are easily accessible and suitable for easy tourism. The path to waterfalls is well secured thanks to many wooden bridges. Going through the gorge via ladders, and bridges is bit more difficult yet manageable. Above Muggendorf town there is a high rocky klippe belonging to Hausstein (664 m). From there, you can have beautiful vistas over Piestingtal valley or Lower Austria’s dominant peak - Schneeberg (2 076 m).

It is also a time of winter holidays in the mountains, meeting with friends over a glass of mulled wine or it is a time of a great cabbage soup, which will warm you up in this season.
