Old maritime and fishermen tradition, delicious vine, friendly French, beautiful weather, blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea… All of this lure in millions to rest from worries while getting some of the southern energy. The French Riviera is not the cheapest area in Europe yet it is worth it. You wont be disappointed.
We leave the Alps, concretely the city of Grenoble, for the region in the southeast of France close to Spanish borders.
On this day, we visit the heart of Deparament Amiens for the last time.
On this day, we take a look almost to Spain for we visit Biarritz, a seaside resort situated near the borders with Spain in the Bay of Biscai. This legendary and quiant resort used to be a small fishing village. In the 19th century, this area became sought after by French higher classes. Empress Eugenia, the wife of Napoleon III, ordered to build a grandiose palace here. Now it is a hotel with a Michelin-grade restaurant.
This Friday we will be in nature, concretely in Mont Blanc dubbed the roof of Europe. Our goal today is the alpine town of Chamonix and its surroundings.
Today, we remain in France but differently. Situated in the beautiful Caribbean Sea, Martinique is about 8 hours of flight from Paris. The island is a combination of amazing beaches and tropical gardens. The island's capital Fort-de-France charms visitors with its architecture. It also features great exhibitions of colonial and pre-Colombian history.
This Friday we are headed to another famous French resort. This time on the French Riviera. The region is rich on sunny days and sand beaches. However, this place is not just beaches, swimming or celebrities frequenting this place. Yet tourism is only a part of what supports its economy – local economy also thrives from flower production (mostly roses and carnations). There are many interesting sights in the city and around to explore. Today, we are going to take a closer look.
Today we take you to Lorraine region. Here we pay visit to the quiant city of Nancy, the capital of Meurthe-et-Moselle prefecture.
Europe's highest mountain - Mont Blanc - is respected by climbers. There are many trails leading to the top, but one of them, the so-called normal, is the most commonly used. And I'm going to introduce it to you today. It is said that along this trail it is easy to reach the summit. But it can come with a price. But the truth is that this trail may be deadly. And I was really curious to see what the actual truth behind this is.
In today's article, you can read how we went on the famous mountain of Mont Blanc.
Today, we visit Grenoble, a city which is not under the spotlight like Paris or Lyon. However, Grenoble is surrounded by the mountains, main reason behind its alternative name - the Capital of the Alps.
Cannes is a city located on the shiny French Riviera and you are sure to know it for the famous film festival, which takes place here every year in May, since 1946. The festival is currently Europe's largest film festival, which also serves as a great promotion of European film art. .
The Musée des Beaux-Arts or Museum of Fine Arts is our next destination in beautiful Dijon. Last time we ended up at the Palais des Ducs and we won't go too far from it, because the museum is located in its east wing. It is one of the oldest and most important art museums in France. It is home to extensive collections that begin with ancient Egypt and end with the present. For a relatively low entrance fee (6 euros), you can look forward to art feasts that you just won't see anywhere else.
Gascony is another of France's historic regions we visit on our journeys in France. It is situated in the southwest of the country bordering Spain. Wavy fields, empty roads, sun flowers, and peace are typical images of this region.
Deep in France, there is the city of Toulouse, the fourth largest in the country. Many, however, only drive by as they are headed to the Pyrenees or Languedoc.
We visit Toulouse one more time. This time we see Place du Capitole which is situated in the heart of the city. The square is vibrant and crowded. Usually, farm markets take place there as well as open air art exhibitions. Once, there were plastic cows painted by local artsist. They were sold in auction and the money was gifted to charity.
We are on the top of Europe, on the top of Mount Mont Blanc. In case of normal hikes, the top spot is a place where one can sit, rest and enjoy the view of the surroundings, it really is not possible on the summit covered in. Here you will only hold out for a while, because it is too cold. At the same time, one realizes how tired he is and knows how far back he is and how certain sections are dangerous.
We remain in France. It is a country combining amazing nature, landmarks, good food and wine.
Have you read Lust for Life by Irving Stone? Do you know details of van Gogh's life? Arles is a city closely linked to the life of the famous painter. Van Gogh spent his last years here. You can follow his footsteps.
Upon a stop in Rennes, the capital of Brittany, we take a look at Nantes - the most populous city in Brittany and sixth largest city in France. TImes called Nantes the best European city to live in.
We continue in our walks across Brittany by stopping in Rennes. This city is situated in the heart of the region to which it is also the capital. Some often think that Nantes is the capital for it is the largest city in the region. Rennes is a great place to learn about the culture of northern France. The Canal d'Ille-et-Rance navigation channel links the Ille with the Rance. Rennes thus has river connection with Saint-Malo and the English Channel.
Champagne is home to famous typie of wine - sparkling wine. This historic region is situated in the northwest of France. Unlike Gascony which we visited last week this region is more cold. The proximity to Paris generated Champagne's economic success. However, armies often marched through here to the French capital and they plundered anything standing in their way.
Once again, we visit sunny and beautiful France. We leave scenic town of Annecy and move 200 to the north to Departament Doubs and its capital of Besancon.
