One of the most important places on Balaton is to be found on the northwest bank. It is known for local baroque chateau and beautiful beaches. The chateau belonging to the Festetics family is at the pedestrian zone’s end. Its other end has the main square with a Gothic church together making town’s historical core. Hungary’s third largest castle served its owners since 1745 for the span of several generations. All cultural and social events take place in there. Parks, museums, basilicas, a freak show, spa, and library lure in many tourists every year.
