The Hohe Tauern is vast and massive mountain range of the East Alps. It is the highest mountain range in Austria. We classify it as part of the Central Crystal Alps. From the geological point of view, this mountains are made mostly by metamorphosed rock. Larger part of the Hohe Tauern is located in the bundeslands of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. Small part of this mountain range is located in northern Italy, in the province of Bolzano.
The highest peak of this mountain range is Grossglockner that reaches to 3 798 meters of altitude. Part of this territory is within the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern that covers an area up to 1 834 km2, making it one of the largest park in Austria. The whole area of the Hohe Tauern is very interesting to tourists, skialpinists, and fans of winter sports.

Winter is here again. For some, it is perhaps too cold and harsh, but to me it is the most popular season of the year. Everything is hidden under a fluffy white blanket of snow and acts somewhat calmer, and even cleaner than the rest of the year. It is also a time of winter holidays in the mountains, meeting with friends over a glass of mulled wine or it is a time of a great cabbage soup, which will warm you up in this season.
