This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. Many monuments, museums and open-air museums of military technology have been built over the past decade to commemorate this dark event in our history. They want to remind us not only of the destruction and casualties caused by the war, but also of the victory.
Join us for a tour in central Slovakia. We visit the district of Ziar nad Hronom, precisely the Royal mining town of Kremnica. Once, gold and silver was mined there and there is still a mint in operation. It is one of the oldest constantly operating undertakings in the world.
We haven't taken you to mountains in Slovakia for a long time now, so we'll fix it today. We will visit one of the mining gems of Slovakia, which is Špania Dolina. It lies less than 11 kilometers from Banská Bystrica in the arms of the Starohorské Hills.
Join us for a tour to the Stiavnice region. Banska Stiavnica is sort of its cultural, historic and social center.
Banska Bystrica is often looked at as the heart of the country below the Tatras. There one of the most important memorials in Slovakia is located. It reminds the nation of the second world war and Slovak resistance to fascism.
We can describe Banska Bystrica easily – mining history and the Slovakian National Uprising. Since time immemorial has been the history of Banska Bystrica tied to mining – mostly silver and copper.
Every Slovak, if you happen to be in Central Slovakia, logically recommends a trip to Banska Stiavnica. However, its bigger "sister" and the natural metropolis of the region - Banska Bystrica deserve attention as well. Let's get together to explore it.
One of the most beautiful mining cities in Slovakia – Banska Stiavnica. It is unique for its architecture, history, and atmosphere like anywhere else. Its romantic streets and quiant nooks tempt you to discover this place of long history.
After our introduction to Kremnica last week we set off now to the surroundings of the city. There are several options where to. You can either climb up to Kremnicky stit, go to the towns of Ihrac or Ziar, or visit Kremnice mines nearby. Our destinations were Tri krize, Skalka, Krahule village and we paid visit to recently bulit observation tower.
The symbolic centre of Europe we can find not only the Slovak Republic, but also in many surrounding states of the Old Continent. It just depends on your point of view and definition according to which we are looking for him.
There are many interesting places around Banska Bystrica. Malachov is one of them. We visit it today.
Last week we promised you to take you on some tourist trails above Malachov village. These take you through former mines and local anomaly of "natural fridge".
At first glance you might village Malachov located in the middle in Slovak republic considered one of the local part of Banska Bystrica. Appearances are deceptive in this case.
