Today we will take you to one exceptional place, which, despite its planned demise, gave way to art. Our goal will be the distinctive Orava region, more precisely the city connected with water - Námestovo. On its edge lies the Orava Reservoir with the popular Slanický Island of Art. The 3.5-hectare island is actually a ridge of the former settlement of Slanica, which, together with four other settlements, was flooded as part of the construction of a reservoir. The remains of the former settlement invite visitors to visit the Baroque-Classicist church of the Exaltation of Holy Cross (1843) with two towers, a locksmith's chapel, a lapidary in the vicinity of the sacral building, where there is an exhibition of Orava stonework (from the 18th and 19th centuries), or the Calvary and the symbolic cemetery. Here you can also see a monument to the important native Anton Bernolák.
