Pezinok
The area where Pezinok is placed, is mentioned for the first time in written documents in 1208. Originally, this was miners´community. After second wave of German colonization at the beginning of 16th century, the seat changed into vineyard town. The effort of local inhabitants for obtaining of laws for free (independent) Kings´ town culminated in 1647, when all such laws were granted. Later, within 17-18th centuries, Pezinok experienced its biggest boom, and belonged to richest towns of Hungary. Its fame and wealth were based, first of all, on production of wines of the best quality. In the course of 19th century, successive industry movement came to the town. So, the first factory for production of sulphuric acid in Hungary was established there, and shortly afterthat, also a factory for production of needles and big brick-works as well. Within 19th century, railway connection was introducted there, and this fact caused that gold mining was re-established. So, Pezinok became most important town of Small Carpathian vineyard area. However, the first half of 20th century brought decline for the town, as no bigger industrial factories were founded in the area. At the same time, wine production dropped, and this fact caused that many people left their homes and emigrated abroad. Nevertheless, slow increase arrived when the 2nd World War was over.
At present, Pezinok is modern district town with fully built industry branches, wine production of the best quality and developped business relations. Moreover, you can find here several places of interest, too. It is characteristic historical nucleus, with several civic (middle-class) houses. You have the chance to walk through streets in regular reticular ground-plan and original ramparts. To most important monuments belongs a castle of 13th century, four churches, valuable from historical point of view and town hall, constructed in Renaissance style.
