Červený Kostelec is situated close to the east part of Giant Mountains, in the centre of Náchod-Trutnov districts, in Hradec Králové Region, East Bohemia. The town is placed in the extent of 2405,59 ha, and 8500 inhabitants are living there. Červený Kostelec neighbours with Hronov, Náchod, Česká Skalice, Úpice aqnd Rtyně.

Between the towns of Nová Paka and Lomnice nad Popelkou, there is arising, on steep basaltic hill, the ruin of Kumburk castle. However, when this castle, in past named as Goldenburg or Kolburg, was founded, is unknown.

The ruin of Velis castle is located on expressive hill of the same name near to the village of Podhradí, in 3 kms distance in southwest direction from the town of Jičín. Veliš castle was built on a hill, which his destructed by basaltic quarry now.

Hvězda Chalet (Star Chalet) is situated on range of Broumov Walls, in an altitude of 674 m above sea level. As far as the excursions to Hvězda is concerned, we can read it in Jirásek Memories, also a painter Adolf Kašpar worked here. You can reach the chalet, walking a road from village of Hlavňov or on foot via rocks and Kovářova Rokle (Smith´s Ravine). This walk is 1,5 kms long.
