Slatiňany
The first written document regarding this town comes from the end of 13th century. The wooden Gothic stronghold of thane Frank stand here. A townsman Bohuslav Mazanec of Frymburk bought the rests of this stronghold in 16th century and let built the Renaissance castle on this place. Slatiňany became – in the course of centuries – the important cultural and economic place. In 19th century grew many industrial companies, as for instance a sugar-factory with refinery, the factory for artificial fertilizers, steam saw-mill or distillery. In 1971 Slatiňany became a town. There are living 4040 inhabitants approx. The town quarters form Kunčí, Škrovád, Trpišov and Kochánovice at present.
Kunčí
First mentioned in documents in 1512, under the name Kunšův dvůr (Kunša court). It is situated in a plain country. You can see two ponds - Návesní and Mazánek, offering first - class conditions for fishing. On a village green there is a monument dedicated to victims of the 1st World war and a small bell-tower.
Škrovád It is situated on Secondary formations of sandstones near to the river of Chrudimka. In this area there was mined a sandstone during 18th up to middle of 20th century. Now serve these former quarries as training mountaineers´ walls. A statue of St.Johann Nepomuk was made from this local stone, and is placed on banks of Chrudimka river. On slopes of hill Hurá (391 m) there are marked the touristic trails, here are arranged vaious sport events.
Kočičí hrádek (Small Cat´s Castle)
Provided you walk through castle park (here you can find also so called English Park where you discover the richest collection of wood-trees of Eastern Bohemia and pass the pasture-lands, you see, for sure, pasturing horses of Oldkladruby, you arrive to a place, near to forest, which is attractive for children. You find the small copy of castle named Kočičí hrádek. One of former Castle owners let made it for their children.
Stud-Farm Slatiňany
Established in 1898 as a castle stud-farm, owned by Family Auersperg together with a castle and belonging dominion. Local breeding of Kladruby black horses took care of Professor PhDr.MUDr. František Bílek. He transfered and extended the herd of these horses in 1945 to Slatiňany, so he deserved its preservation. Now, the centre of breeding of this wonderful and noble sort of horses is consisting from stable of stud-horses and three stables of mares. The stud-horses are living in spacious stables, the mares with colts in stables or in free stables, the mares without colts are in bound stables.
