Virgin forest of Boubín
Boubín was very often target of visitors in past, however, this fact damaged the surrounding nature, so it had to be hedged and closed for public.
In 1979, there was created in the middle of virgin forest an instructive path „Boubín Virgin Forest“, it is 5 kms long. You can admire flora and fauna of most preserved part of this forest. The path starts at artificial lake on Kaplice brook (it is Boubín lake). It served originally as a water-reservoir for floating of wood. The lake ha the extention of 0,37 ha and depth of 4 m.
Further stop is at torso of Pine-Tree King. This tree reached an unbelievable height of 57,6 m, grew here for 440 years and its diameter was of 162 cm. However, this tree withered in 1969, and on 4th December 1970 was routed out by a gale, raged in this area at that time.
The path continues along Lukenská road, where there are placed six standing points – you can obtain here a lot of information about the points visited.
Of of points of interest of Boubín (1362 m) is a memorable granite obelisk with engraved inscription: „Cardinal Friedrich Furst von Schwarzenberg 3rd August 1867“. It was created here on top platform in honour of visit of former Prague Archbishop.
Further, it is worth to mention a wooden Boubín look-out-tower, built recently, placed directly on a top of Boubín. It is 21 m high. This look-out-tower is not locked up, so it is open continually. From a gallery, siteated in 7th stage you can enjoy panoramatic and not disturbed view around on beauties of Bohemian Forest. If the weather is favourable, you can have a chance to see the tops of Alps.
