Lenešice II. - Fire, Water, Wind

Published: 5.10.2010
The rake, scythe, flail as well as straw bunch, so, all these subjects the village of Lenešice has in its escutcheon. In past, it was very important agricultural community. At present, the village, situated at Ohře-river, is well known, especially thanks to a church in Romanesque style.

However, just this church tower fell down two years ago. Despite this fact, the ruins of the church remain.

Except agricultural buildings, re-built into modern lofts, it is local castle. The building is situated on market place, just opposite church ruins. And, frankly speaking, this construction is to be found in much more better position. Frontal facade is white, the roof is repaired, and all is in very good condition. The seat of lordship at that time was at least, according to the inscription, placed on west part of agricultural buildings, erected in 1668. The plate with building date was put there (according to the affirmation of Mr. Jan Tvrzník) during one of several castle reconstructions. However, the castle was destroyed by big fire in 1821.

Fire and Water…

„To tell the truth, the fire became a frequent guest in Lenešice!“ says Mr. Plaček, a Chairman of Lenešice Embellish Club. „Famous firemen from Velvary have their seat 40 kms from here, and it is rather distant!“, Mr. Plaček continues, passing local fire-brigade seat.

In past, the fire hit even local parsonage. „Anyway, Sunday Holy Masses are arranged here, when the church is missing. But it was made even before the church tower collapsed!“, Mr. Plaček narrates, showing us narrow spaces of the house of 16th century, which could be hardly noticed.

„On 8th May 1599, at 9 o´clock a.m., the fire whipped out, close to Havran sheld, and. as a result, eight courtyards of wealthy farmers and a parsonage burnt out totally!“

Třeboň Ponds in Ústí Region?

Approx since 15th century, Lenešice became known thanks to its extensive ponds. Two of them were placed even around St. Simon and Juda Romanesque Church. In local castle, just couple of steps from the ponds, Joseph Šusta, (later famous investigator in fishing, especially of  carps´breeding), visited school building in 1858. Who knows, maybe, that the ponds, like those around Třeboň Region, could decorate also Ústí Region. However, it did not happen, as the ponds in Lenešice were dried in the course of 18th century.

„Anyway, we do not know when exactly these operations were done, but we could be able to find it out !“, Mr. Plaček adds. Since 1960, the ponds´ renovation begun again. Now, Lenešice pond belongs to one of important ornitological localities.

The Wealth is a Past, Only the Memories Remained

The village, not far from the town of Louny, had its own sugar-factory and even two breweries. Nevertheless, the times changed. Lenešice beer is not manufactured any more, and local beer, with the brand of Louny, is being produced in Ústí nad Labem brewery. Even sugar-factory is closed, not only that the building completely burnt out, similarly, as several other building in Lenešice. Its octagonnal chimney, 73 metres high, remained and belongs to the highest ones in Czech Republic.

To another Lenešice places of interest belongs a granary in Baroque style. It is gigantic two-storey building. In past, it was a symbol of agricultural wealth of the community, however, at present, the roof is missing. Frankly speaking, only periphery walls remained, and inside, you can find, instead of grains, a space overgrown with bushes.

„Immediately, when the church will be repaired, the granary - reconstruction will be started!“ Mr. Plaček is looking for. He deserved well of, as a chief of Lenešice Embellish Club Member, the renovation of the village. It is true, that he was successfully managed to reconstruct Huss bell tower for the time being.

A Wind - and a Lot of Ground-Squirrels

Not far from Lenešice, you can find basaltic beauty - Raná Hill, very popular with most of paragladists and air-modellers. Nevertheless, everybody who loves adrenalin experience and fresh wind, knows very well, what´s on. But, now, especially during autumn time period, Raná became popular, as  the ground-squirrels had an affection for such area.
