Pelhřimov
The town was founded in 1290, getting regular ground-plan at that time, and this outlasted in its historical centre till now. In first half of 15th century the town was ruled by Táborits, in 1437 the Emperor Zikmund let a town presented to Nicholas Trčka of Lípa. In middle of 16th century the town was sold to Adam Říčanský of Říčany, successively, in 1572 was redeemed from servitude, so in 1577 Pelhřimov became an independent town. Thanks to Majesty of Emperor Rudolph II Pelhřimov was declared as King´s Town from 1596.
Anyway, the 19th century is – for developmnet of industry – quite important.There were a boom for knitting industry, manufacturing of agricultural machines as well as brushes. Masaryk Square is very important as well as characteristic monument of a town. Originally Gothic buildings were substituted by Renaissance houses after fires in 16th century.
Some facade-houses preserved its original renaissance stony columns. However, further fire in 1766 had changed some facade-houses into Baroque style. 19th and 20th century brought to a square buildings in Secession´s or funktionalism´s style.
Říčanský Castle remembers also – thanks to fires in past – a lot of changes and reconstructions. At the beginning of 17th century, a salthouse was added to a castle, reconstructed later during 1895-1896 by Stanislav Rokos to a town´s theatre. Since 20th century, the castle is a seat of district museum.
Church of St.Vitus serves now as a concert and exhibition hall. It was built in 13th century and it is the oldest church in town. Parish church of St.Bartholomew, dominante of historical nucleus, comes from the same century as St.Vitus Church.
